Have posted a similar topic before, many months ago and searched and searched for the film/TV programme from which this quote comes, without success...

The film/programme is (very) roughly 35 years old and all I can remember is that it is a very tragic portayal of the relationship between two young children (possibly 10 y/o)- a boy and a girl.

I have a vague recollection that one of the children dies, but not before one has said to the other something along the lines of "Every step you take is one step closer to your last".

If anyone can point me in the direction of finding the film/programme name I will be really really grateful (and no doubt even happier than when I found out a couple of years ago that the Barbapapas were not just a figment of my nearly 40 year old imagination).
