The Guardian newspaper said the film(Brokeback Mountain) showed how Gyllenhaal had "matured into one of the most charismatic actors of his generation".

I personally cant see the attraction. He always looks like he's about to nod off or start crying. What do you think??

I used to think he was too pretty boy, but I thought he was really good in Jarhead & Brokeback, maybe the boy is growing up.

No offence to Jake but when you look at the list of "charismatic actors of his generation" the only reason he stands out is because the rest have virtually no charisma....

First of all you started a discussion with a title you can't even spell; the name's Jake GYLLENHAAL
And i totally disagree with you. I think he's a fantastic actor and much more than a 'pretty boy.' Ever since I watched Donnie Darko for the first time I've thought he was brillaint and deserved more recognition. His roles in Brokeback mountain and Jarhead finally gave him some attention: I went and saw both at the cinema and I thought they were both excellent. The fact that he chose to act as a gay cowboy shows that he's much more than just another hollywood superstar, and not only is he fantastic at acting but he's also an earnest and intersting guy....maybe you should be more educated before passing rash judgements in the future. Oh and learn to spell.

To be quite honest I agree with Blakess. Jake Gyllenhaal may have only appeared in a number of films put his performances are excellent. I don't believe there is another actor at this moment in time that has the ability to adapt to different roles like Jake. People fuss about all these up and coming young actors/actresses who in some cases are just rubbish! (maybe a bit harsh). It will be interesting to see what he does in the future.

I've seen most of his films, and find Jake to be a versatile actor with powerful screen presence. The first time I saw him in Donnie Darko his performance held me spellbound and (partly due to the entire film itself)it left me reeling.

Whenever I see him being interviewed or at award shows(like the Baftas last night) he's charismatic, genuinely excited about his craft, and while he can be serious, he's refreshingly able to laugh at himself - his sense of humour is brilliant.
I hope he never changes in that way....I cannot stand actors who are full of themselves and take everything too seriously, like a certain Thandie Newton at the awards last night. Roll Eyes

Dry your eyes. I only asked for opinions. I never questioned his acting. Read the starter question again ***cough cough asshole cough cough*** dont take everything so seriously. Just because you love him doesn't mean I have to as well.

I haven't seen all his films but I have enjoyed the ones I have seen, especially The Good Girl. He is very good at playing a vulnerable character. I can't wait to see Jarhead or Brokeback Mountain which are more 'grown up' roles.
As Kat mentioned he seems to be a nice guy, has a sense of humour and has charmed me in interviews.

Is he a flash in the pan ? I don't know but I hope not.

I like him. He was really good in Brokeback Mountain and Donnie Darko, I haven't seen Jarhea yet though. I thought he was good in The Day After Tomorrow as well.
And yeah, he does seem to have a good sense of humour compared to some others... Thandie Newton really p*ss*d me off.

I read the starter question again and I'm not sure what the point is of starting up a discussion and then getting pissed off when people disagree with you. I was only replying to your comment that you thought he looked like he was gonna nod off or start crying. I don't love him either I just appreciate good acting. Jeez.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Jakes and think he is a wonderfully versatile actor. A good early film of his, is a comedy called Bubble Boy. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Has anyone seen it?
