Hi,
Im a student studing Alevel media in college.

I have been esearching the topic "women and film" and i have chosen a case study on "In what way are female characters in film only "strong" by copying traditonal male strengths?"

I am seeking any information.
Anyon willing to help please reply.

Well, film only reflects real life. So if women characters are only strong by copying male strengths that's because it's true in real life too.

In the fictional film world though Aliens is a good example. You have Ripley, the female drop ship pilot and that squaddie chick with the machine gun. Both the squaddie chick and dropship pilot are simple characters. The dropship pilot can only be described as a pale imitation of a man, the style - the shades, the attitude - poor woman's rip off of any 'Nam Huey pilot, etc. The squaddie chick was a bit more complicated but there wasn't much feminine about her and the character could have been a man without changing the script? Ripley saved the day by butching up? Like a man?

The only female character in the film that wasn't copying a man was the Queen Alien.
