Don't miss this fantastic British horror film from 1957 - it's truly creepy in places and is one of my top ten films. The main 'baddie' character is loosely based on infamous occultist Aleister Crowley. Kate Bush lifted samples from the seance scene for 'The Hounds Of Love'.

It was directed by Jacques Tourneur, who also directed "Cat People". He fought with the studio and ultimately lost over an argument about whether to show the demon of the title. It would have been an even better film if the demon hadn't been shown because then the audience would think there might not have been a demon at all - and this would have taken it into the realms of psychological horror. However this is still an incredible film - if you haven't seen it already, it's on at ten past midnight, so stay up or set the recorder!!
