I may be pedantic, but the characters in 'Stand by me' were pre-teen (and with the exception of two, the Goonies were pre-teen surely?). I had never thought of 'Back to the Future' as a teen film before, but seeing as the characters are predominantly teens, then I guess that you're right lol.

For what it's worth, my top ten (in no particular order).

Back to the Future Wink
My Bodyguard
River's Edge
Breaking Away
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Heathers
Pump Up The Volume
Over the Edge
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The Outsiders/Rumble Fish (filmed at the same time, so they count as one Smile )

I guess I was coming at an angle where the characters in the film don't have to be teenagers, rather films which teenagers (and me at 27) would watch. Good list though Big Grin

The American pie films are so overated its unreal, I will only watch the first one because I fancy Alyson Hannigan but even that cant do it for the others

That aside in no particular order

Back To The Future I, II and III
Amazing films even if they did help to typecast Christopher Lloyd
H.Claufeild said that He/She hadnt thought of this as a teen movie. Well basicly that is all it is with a strange twist. Its about marty and his relationships with his family friends and his girlfriend at the beginning of his adult life. The way his family change due to the story of timetravel is very clever as it points out how we view our parents differently as we move from childhood into adult life as we becoming adults start to judge them by different ideals and principles

anyway back to my list

Stand By Me
The epitome of a coming of age film imo, with all the common elements of a coming of age movie that challenges bonds of friendship in a time when your charachter takes possibly the biggest modification it ever will.

Ferris Beulers Day Off
I only saw this a couple of weeks ago and I'm glad I did. This one takes on the more rebellious side of teenage life but is very clever if not a bit far feched at times but there are some elements of truth as teenagers are often more improvising than parents because it feels so important to rebel at that age. Necessity is the mother of invention.

To Sir With Love
Now this is way before my time and to those of you who havent seen it watch it it is one of my favourite films of all time.
The basic story is that an engineer takes a tempory teaching job to wait for a job I wont say much more as it will spoil it.
The film is about moving from childhood into adult life and learning how to deal with life but its so much more. It deals with racism, biggotry(Sp?), growing up, puberty, rebellion and anarchy, and unlike so many others its true to life, everything doesnt work out like you expect it to. Oh lulu's song at the end brings tears to my eyes every time?

The ironic thing is that Sidney poitier(Sp?) should have won best male lead at the oscars that year and you can guess why he didn't

The others in my list are purely for fun so I wont go into great detail on them

Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey

The Breakfest Club

Nope cant name ten really Im not abig fan of the film type because you do too often get a cheesy predictable film

"A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man"

"Embiggens, phfft that isn't even a word"

"Of course it is Lisa, it's a perfectly crumulent word"

Pleasantville - I really enjoy watching this film a lot. Not just for the visuals. I like how it starts off quite contained, but opens up gradually almost into a different film. But it still remains just a simple, upbeat story.

Reason to watch - The high 'Rewatchability' Factor

The Lost Boys - I've got to include a 'Coreys' film, because they're both standing right next to me with weapons. What? It's possible. You really think they've got other things going on in their lives? Something better to do?! Hey, I'm as cut up about it as you. I'm still waiting for Dream A Little Dream 3. Frown

Reason to watch - The high 'Corey' Factor, obviously

The Faculty - Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Teen Movie, to give it its full title. The best teen films make you want to be a part of the gang, and this one does it brilliantly.

Reason to watch - The high 'Them-vs-Us' Factor

Heathers - The naysayers said it wouldn't age well, but it has aged like a vintage mineral water.

Reason to watch - The high 'Acerbic Teen' Factor

The Girl Next Door - I like the intro montage, which does a better job of summing up high school life in 3 minutes than most teen films manage in 90. Now please don't think the only reason I like this is because of Elisha Cuthbert, because I assure you I'm not that shallow. I happen to think it's a well-rounded and touching film.

Reason to watch - The high 'Elisha Cuthbert' Factor

The Breakfast Club - Made in the 80s? Check. Bunch of high school stereotypes? Check. Inexplicable dance sequence? Check. They all learn things about themselves.....and each other? Check. Ends on a freeze-frame? Check. I can find no flaws at all.

Reason to watch - The high 'Estevez Doing Pot' Factor

Dazed and Confused - Not just for people who lived the 70s high school life. Some classic lines, interesting characters and a very good soundtrack to boot.

Reason to watch - The high 'Everyone Doing Pot' Factor

Toy Soldiers - Who couldn't love a movie named after a Martika song? Ok put your hands down, it was a rhetorical question.

Reason to watch - The high 'Naked Hobbit In A Towel' Factor

Ferris Beuller's Day Off - Broderick occasionally veers close to annoying, but the many great lines save this classic.

Reason to watch - The high 'Vehiclicide' Factor

The Karate Kid - I'm standing on one foot, with my other leg hovering in mid air in front of me, and both my arms raised above my head if anyone tries to disagree with this choice.

Reason to watch - The high 'Waxing Pat Morita' Factor

I don't think that I'd be allowed to post my 10 favourite teen films on this forum. Suffice to say that they are all legal and even,I think, promote strong messages about personal hygiene, anti-homophobia and teamwork Wink
