Damn they got rid of that too? Uh-oh it really is a clampdown Eek

When Harry Met Sally
This needs no introduction really, this is the film that set the bar for 'RomComs'. Harry Bernstein (Billy Crystal) takes a ride with Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) from Chicago to New York and begins a fate-filled new life where the two keep bumping into each other. Eventually they become ridiculously platonic friends through several years until they finally sleep together and it all unravels before coming together perfectly again. This film is classic, you always wish you could find yourself in a similar situation 10/10

Me And You And Everyone We Know 9/10
'Me and You and Everyone We Know' is a poetic and penetrating observation of how people struggle to connect with one another in an isolating and contemporary world. Christine Jesperson is a lonely artist and "Eldercab" driver who uses her fantastical artistic visions to draw her aspirations and objects of desire closer to her. Richard Swersey, a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys, is prepared for amazing things to happen. But when he meets the captivating Christine, he panics. Life is not so oblique for Richard's seven-year-old Robby, who is having a risqué Internet romance with a stranger, and his fourteen-year-old brother Peter who becomes the guinea pig for neighborhood girls -- practicing for their future of romance and marriage............... This was an excellent film, well recommended

http://imdb.com/title/tt0415978/

The Corpse Bride 9/10
In the same vein as EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, Tim Burton continues to combine wholesome comedy and creepy horror with this tale of a mild-mannered Victorian gentleman, Victor (Johnny Depp), who accidentally marries a mysterious corpse bride (Helena Bonham-Carter) instead of his intended, Victoria (Emily Watson). Victor soon discovers that the Land of the Dead holds more fun than frights and begins to fall in love with his innocent bride. Meanwhile, Victoria has been drawn into a scam of a marriage and may not escape with her life. As time runs out for everyone, can there be a resolution where everyone gets what he or she deserves?............... This was an excellent film, well recommended

http://imdb.com/title/tt0121164/

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas 9/10
When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and sidekick Dr Gonzo (Benicio Del Torro) in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business is forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fuelled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever (including cameo appearances by Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey and many others). But no matter where misadventures lead them, Duke and Gonzo discover that sometimes going too far is the only way to go................ This was an excellent but very strange film, Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro give fantastic performances, well recommended

Unleashed 8/10
This is the story of Danny, a slave who has lived his whole life without any sort of normal human education, with the mind and personality of a young child, with only one lesson learned: how to fight. Treated like a dog by his owner/boss, Bart which includes having to wear a collar, Danny has been raised to be a lethal fighting machine who fights in illegal gladiator-style fight clubs, where he earns lots of money for Bart as the undisputed champion. After a car accident that lands Bart in a coma, however, Danny meets a kind elderly blind piano tuner on the run because he knows secrets some bad guys don't want known, who uses music to teach Danny some things about the world and about being human.............. This was a surprisingly very good film, well recommended

Wallace & Gromit - I really enjoyed it even though some of the jokes were a bit corny, but you expect that from Wallace & Gromit. Good fun Big Grin

Austin Powers Goldmember - I'm not a huge Austin fan so I wasn't that disappointed when I fell asleep before the end

Fear And Trembling 9/10
Amelie, who spent her childhood in Tokyo, wants to go back as a corporate interpreter to the country of her fondest memories. As a woman and as a foreigner unable to grasp the codes of a strict hierarchical society, she fails miserably. Scorned and humiliated by her immediate boss Fubuki and the whole raft of her superiors Messrs Saito, Omochi, Tenschi and Haneda, her life spins into a downward spiral that is both tragic and hilarious. She tries to understand the soul of modern Japan from the 44th floor of a company skyscraper in this clash of western and eastern cultures.............. This was an excellent film, well recommended

Tuck Everlasting 8/10
Tuck Everlasting is the story of a girl named Winnie and a family who she meets, the Tucks. The Tucks have a secret, they're immortal. They drank water from a spring that was actually a fountain of youth. Till the end of time, they will stay that way. Winnie falls inlove with one of the Tucks, Jesse, a "17" year old boy who shares the same feelings for her. Scared of death, Winnie must choose between being immortal and being with Jesse or following the circle of life and dying someday. The Tucks try to teach her how she shouldn't fear death, how they would give anything to die. It teaches the importance and understanding of life and death. It shows that you should not fear death, but to fear an unlived life.............. This was a very good film, well recommended

Nanny McPhee: I think the only thing wrong with this film, was the shallowness. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it but the media have to stop portraying undesirable people or physical qualities as bad, while "beautiful" people or qualities are good. Bad people come in all sorts of packages, not just stereotypically ugly ones, and it's better that children understand this for their own safety, and for their own self worth.

Spoiler in white*
And how yawny is it that yet again, 40-odd something fella ends up with teenager. *

I'll give you the last two, as I've actually been to the movies twice in the last couple of weeks:

Night Watch 8/10
Ok its in russian with subtitles, and sometimes the subtitles clearly dont match the russian (I saw it in a theatre which clearly had a lot of people who could speak russian who laughed/gasped at things we didn't get via subtitles), the stories good, the camera work and build up of suspense work well, and I'm looking forward to Day Watch (part 2) coming out

Lord of War 10/10
Blindingly good story, fantastic camera work, twists and turns all over the place, a bit let down by a small moralistic bit near the end, but you still beleive every word

Other peoples lives are not more fascinating than mine!

As I've got no work for a couple of days I fished out Ben-Hur today. I haven't seen it in years. What a treat. Boy they don't make epics like that anymore. It's pretty cheesy I know but a great spectacle nonetheless. The music was great, all that old style Hollywood 'heavenly' choral stuff. I wish film composers would do that again. So many film scores these days sound the same to me. They all seem to follow the same style and seem to have lost the art of orchestration.

I think I'll treat myself to more old movies while I'm 'resting'.

One True Thing 9/10
One True Thing tells the sobering story of a family whose strength is tested when tragedy strikes. Ellen Gulden, a writer living in New York City, has dedicated her life to becoming a successful journalist. When she learns that her mother, Kate is dying of cancer, her life is forever altered. Ellen’s father, George Gulden, a National Book Award winner and university professor, pressures her into moving home and sacrificing her own life for her mother’s sake. The pressure of running the household combined with the pain of seeing her mother grow terminally ill threatens to overwhelm Ellen, and she is further upset when she discovers that her father may not be the ideal she thought he was.............. This was an excellent film with very good performances from Meryl Streep and Renee Zellweger, well recommended

http://imdb.com/title/tt0120776/

Saving Grace 8/10

Faced with impending doom and little working knowledge except her ability to grow plants, she struggles to save her home. Enter her gardener, who is struggling to make a few marijuana plants grow in a hidden location and suggests that she use her green house to help grow the plants and sell them to make the money both need. He is wanting to get married, but needs capital. What he doesn't know is that his girlfriend is pregnant and thus fears that they will be busted for growing marijuana. While supposedly working, the whole village including the local constable is well aware of the endeavor and is hoping for their success. When the plants come in, Grace takes the crop to London and tries to sell it to a ruthless drug dealer. Everything busts loose from there............ This was a very good and funny film, well recommended
