Batman Begins - I was so looking forward to seeing this only to be utterly let down. I'm well aware that I am in the minority when it comes to this film but so be it. I really disliked it. It felt all wrong to me. What was the deal with Tom Wilkinson being the bad mafia guy. He was dreadful and embarrassing. The script was totally lame and cheesey. The only thing I liked about it was Michael Caine as Alfred. Bah humbug.
Mysterious Skin - Neil and Brian both get abused by their baseball coach when they are kids. Neil becomes a rent boy in his teens while Brian becomes totally withdrawn and geeky and believes he was abducted by aliens.
Not a film to watch when people of an 'uptight' nature are around.
I wouldn't say this film was very enjoyable but it is watchable and pretty bloody sad.
The Village - I already knew what the twist was when I watched this but strangely I don't think that affected my enjoyment at all. It meant I could relax and enjoy the film rather than try and spot the clues. I thought it was a vast improvement on Signs and had an intriguing subject matter. Good cast too.
Frailty - Bill Paxton plays a single father of two boys who believes that God has sent him a message to kill all the demons. Are the demons real or just a figment of his imagination ? Fast forward 20 odd years and one of the grown-up kids is confessing dark deeds to an FBI agent.
Interesting premise let down a little by the ending but no less watchable for that. Give it a whirl if it's ever on telly.
Love Liza - Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Wilson, a recently widowed man. His wife killed herself and left a letter which he cannot bring himself to open. What follows is how he tries to deal with his grief or not deal with it.
There are some momets of levity but overall it's a rather depressing film. You need to be in the right mood to watch this.
Europa Europa - This is based on a true story. A Jewish boy is separated from his family in the early years of the second world war and tries to survive by pretending he is a nazi.
Brilliant film, I really enjoyed it. You spend the whole film wondering when Solomon is going to get caught out and really hoping that he doesn't. I recommend it to one and all.
Varsity Blues - Dawson from Dawson's Creek plays a second-string quarterback who is called into action when the team's star player is badly hurt. It's all pressure, parties, getting drunk and getting naked. Will they win the league despite the horrid coach not listening to the players ? What do you think ?
Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets - Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Certainly better than the first and third instalments. There was a genuinely scary bit when Harry & Ron went to see Aragog. I had to cover my eyes. Urgh !
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter...and Spring - An old monk lives with a young boy in a tiny, floating temple in the middle of an isolated lake. The seasons and years pass and we follow their lives. This is a wonderful film to look at, the scenery is stunning. There is barely any dialogue and the film is very, very laid back. Simplicity itself.
The Descent - A group of friends go potholing and come up against one of *my* worst nightmares - getting trapped in a confined space.

Some of the characters are a bit annoying but there are some decent scares, tonnes of blood and it's very entertaining (especially if you watch it in the dark). Not as fun as Dog Soldiers but that's a small gripe. I look forward to seeing what Neil Marshall will do next.
