American Beauty.
Seen it 3 times all ready but it just gets better.
If you haven't seen it, watch it.
Also those who slagged off 'the corpse bride' are insane, Burton movies rock.

I'm going through a Kevin Spacey phase at the moment but have no money for DVDs. Luckily Sky is showing Usual Supsects I'm praying Americna Beauty will be on TV soon. I really want to see it; have for a while even before this Spacey phase.

Munich - It started off really well, but I got bored after about the first hour and a half. It was too drawn out in my opinion. Maybe if I'd known more about the politics of it before I'd went to see it then it might have been better.

The Matador - Maybe Pierce Brosnan will have a career post-Bond after all! Just a simple, easy-to-watch, uplifting film with some funny moments.

Kung Fu Hustle - Made little sense, but kept us amused the whole time it wasn't making sense. If I had watched it 15 years ago it would still be my favourite film today.

Jersey Girl - Just say no, kids!

The Shipping News - Underrated little gem from Lasse Hallstrom. Good cast who all brilliant in the roles and a real good story. Not as good as The Cider House Rules but an enjoyable film all the same.

Big Momma's House 2 - A nice enjoyable family film but not really worth the effort of going to the cinema to see it.

The Usual Suspects - One word: Awesome. And it's a testament to how great this movie really is in that I knew what was coming and my mind was still going in 20 different directions at the end.

Final Destination 3 - Surprisingly entertaining. 'Surprisingly' is possibly not strong enough, 'shockingly' perhaps? I'm quite hardened to violence and gore, but sometimes the tension was so great that I actually found myself wanting to cover my face with my hands (LONG time since that happened), and that impressed the hell out of me. Nothing story, samey characters, etc. But that's not why you watch these films anyway!

The Disappearing Hobbit!

Now, listen carefully. Lord Denethor is Boromir's father. To give him news of his beloved son's death would be most unwise. And do not mention Frodo, or the Ring. And say nothing of Aragorn either. In fact, it's better if you don't speak at all, Peregrin Took.
Do you hear the people sing, Singing the song of angry men, it is the music of the people who will not be slaves again, when the beating of your hearts, echos the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!
There goes the cavalry... but who will rescue the rescuers?
Having dallied with the mortals, the gods return to Mount Olympus. And So I follow!

Batman Begins - I was so looking forward to seeing this only to be utterly let down. I'm well aware that I am in the minority when it comes to this film but so be it. I really disliked it. It felt all wrong to me. What was the deal with Tom Wilkinson being the bad mafia guy. He was dreadful and embarrassing. The script was totally lame and cheesey. The only thing I liked about it was Michael Caine as Alfred. Bah humbug.

Mysterious Skin - Neil and Brian both get abused by their baseball coach when they are kids. Neil becomes a rent boy in his teens while Brian becomes totally withdrawn and geeky and believes he was abducted by aliens.
Not a film to watch when people of an 'uptight' nature are around.
I wouldn't say this film was very enjoyable but it is watchable and pretty bloody sad.

The Village - I already knew what the twist was when I watched this but strangely I don't think that affected my enjoyment at all. It meant I could relax and enjoy the film rather than try and spot the clues. I thought it was a vast improvement on Signs and had an intriguing subject matter. Good cast too.

Frailty - Bill Paxton plays a single father of two boys who believes that God has sent him a message to kill all the demons. Are the demons real or just a figment of his imagination ? Fast forward 20 odd years and one of the grown-up kids is confessing dark deeds to an FBI agent.
Interesting premise let down a little by the ending but no less watchable for that. Give it a whirl if it's ever on telly.

Love Liza - Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Wilson, a recently widowed man. His wife killed herself and left a letter which he cannot bring himself to open. What follows is how he tries to deal with his grief or not deal with it.
There are some momets of levity but overall it's a rather depressing film. You need to be in the right mood to watch this.

Europa Europa - This is based on a true story. A Jewish boy is separated from his family in the early years of the second world war and tries to survive by pretending he is a nazi.
Brilliant film, I really enjoyed it. You spend the whole film wondering when Solomon is going to get caught out and really hoping that he doesn't. I recommend it to one and all.

Varsity Blues - Dawson from Dawson's Creek plays a second-string quarterback who is called into action when the team's star player is badly hurt. It's all pressure, parties, getting drunk and getting naked. Will they win the league despite the horrid coach not listening to the players ? What do you think ?

Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets - Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Certainly better than the first and third instalments. There was a genuinely scary bit when Harry & Ron went to see Aragog. I had to cover my eyes. Urgh !

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter...and Spring - An old monk lives with a young boy in a tiny, floating temple in the middle of an isolated lake. The seasons and years pass and we follow their lives. This is a wonderful film to look at, the scenery is stunning. There is barely any dialogue and the film is very, very laid back. Simplicity itself.

The Descent - A group of friends go potholing and come up against one of *my* worst nightmares - getting trapped in a confined space. Frown Some of the characters are a bit annoying but there are some decent scares, tonnes of blood and it's very entertaining (especially if you watch it in the dark). Not as fun as Dog Soldiers but that's a small gripe. I look forward to seeing what Neil Marshall will do next.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The court-room bits were a bit L.A. law-ish but the events leading up o and during the event were very creepy and well done.
