Wit
A Brutal, uncompromising, hard-bitten depiction of sickness and death. Emma Thompson plays a strong-willed Teacher who discovers she has Ovarian Cancer, the film explores the character's love of literature and verse favouring it as it suits her shrewd, shy nature. Emma Thompson talks to the audience as she goes through the chemotherapy - rather realistic and unsettling - Most of the film is shot in a hospital ward with some flashbacks and memories of how her love for reading started; Talking to the Audience throughout. This film is a no holds barred account of cancer and is tragedy of everything you hold dear being held hostage by the disease. Absolutely brilliant performace by Thompson - she gives such grace to her character whos is so desperately trying to keep her dignity as the cancer slowly kills her - FANTASTIC ACTRESS God bless her Smile

Phantom of the Opera: Not sure if I liked this or not. I think it would have been better at the cinema as the sets aren't so spectacular on small screen. I would actually prefer to see the stage show of this but it was okay.

I liked it and thought it was very amusing. Something a little different.

Haha, good summary there! Agree completely.

This years American Beauty is the Weatherman. Depressing isn't really a strong enough word. Funny in parts but full of miserable (rich) american A*seholes

Flickchick9 dont watch assault on precinct 13 (original) if little girls getting shot worries you

Fight Club - Love it

Lucky Number Slevin - It was good, but wasn't brilliant. Loved the cast though, especially Lucy Liu.

Downfall - Amazing. A very well done film. I didn't think I'd enjoy a film entirely with subtitles but this won me over. 4/5

Garden Estate - I really enjoyed it, some bits were really funny, other bits really sad.

The Matador - I thought it looked good, but it turned out not to be, not my cup of tea at all.

Junebug - 8/10
Amy Adams, Amy Adams, Amy Adams!

Lord Of War - 8/10
Not bad, but probably would have had more impact a few years ago. Still a good film though.

Into the Blue - Really slow, nothing at all happened in the first 50 minutes, I wouldn't recommend it. It did have pretty scenery though.

Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo - not as good as the first, but I didn't expect it to be. It was fun anyway.

Lord of War - I liked it, it was pretty good

The Deuce films are great post-pub entertainment, but I still feel guity as hell for enjoying them.

Last weekend I went to London to watch films at the National Film Theatre. Organised by Independant Cinema Organisation. It was incredible, I watched 7 films in 2 days and they were all stunning! I don't think they are out or else they are about to come out.
The White Countess a love story like they don't make them anymore.
Seducing Dr Lewis French Canadian and hilarious to see French country people desperate enough to learn to play cricket
Paradise Now (controversial, Israeli people would have asked to withdraw it from competition. I can't understand why, it is an anti terrorist film)
The Three Burials of Melquiades AstradaBy and with Tommy Lee Jones. A certain America, an initiatic journey and a deserved redemption. Very original, would make Clint Eastwood jealous.
The Squid and the WhaleThe Squid and the Whale American teenagers with intellectual divorced parents. Still, U S teenagers are madder than the European ones. 20 years ahead in good and in bad as usual. Film very enjoyable.
Shooting Dogs[B] I was devastated by the thruth and the impossible real situation. What can we do about it? I cry in the cinema for the first time in 20 years!!!
Tsotsi[B] South African film, one white man only, very genuine and... magnificent. The unknown actors are stars. Filmed with love and bitterness.

The Proposition - It was really good, and very violent in places. The stuff I didn't see was as bad if not worse than what I did see Eek

You know Sloth died about 15 years ago?

No, but I knew that the actor who played Sloth died. One of the freaks in the movie just looks exactly like SLoth that's all I meant. I know that Sloth wasn't actually a real person.

Hostel

Sick movie, which is complete garbage for the first half containing some of the worst acting you will see and scriptwriting that beggers belief. Second half of the film would be painful to watch for most people but still has some of the flaws from the first half (acting, scriptwriting).

The whole scenario is disturbing and if I was part of the Slovakian tourist board, I would sue.

Overall: Could have been a lot better with actors and a better script. If you want shock value then you will get it.

Definetely agree. The film wouldn't have worked without Kevin Spacey as Lester. I'm planning a second viewing tonight and as that's always the viewing you can tell if a film is really proper good.
