Ghosts Of Mars - Awful. Not much else I can say.
Since Otar Left - An elderly Georgian lady lives for letters and calls from her Paris-based son. When he dies her daughter and granddaughter decide to cover it up in case the shock kills the frail old lady.
I found the depiction of post-Soviet Georgia interesting but I didn't really get into the film as I didn't like the characters much. They seemed quite unpleasant at times. This is held in high esteem by the critics but I'm afraid I found it overrated.
Crash - I can see why everyone went nuts over this film but I'm not sure it was worthy of it's Oscar. It does tackle tough issues but it was so predictable. I saw everything coming a mile away. Watchable but not a Best Picture.
Wedding Crashers - Mildly entertaining but it's too long and I got a serious case of the fidgets. It's not really funny either. I kept waiting for the belly laughs but nothing happened.
Blade 2 - Not a patch on Blade. Should have had more Donnie Yen and Ron Perlman instead of the rubbish love interest and Luke fricking Goss. Why does he keep getting acting jobs ? He is beyond awful.
Lilya 4-ever - Lilya is 16 and looking forward to a new life in America. Her mother's boyfriend decides he doesn't want a kid in tow so she leaves Lilya alone in some ex-Soviet country to fend for herself.
Very different from the last Moodyson film I saw (Together). It's a very upsetting and bleak film but it is also wonderful. The two leads are great and their story is very touching. Oksana Akinshina is an actress to look out for. The end is oddly uplifting despite the tears.
Anatomie 2 - A different beast from the first film. It's not really a horror and Franka Potente showing up proves a distraction rather than a link to the earlier film. Quite entertaining in its own way though.
Troy - This film obviously had zillions spent on it - on the cast, the sets, the special effects but not on the script. I think they probably only spent about 10p on it. With the money they saved they should have bought some acting lessons for Orlando Bloom. I felt pretty embarrassed for all involved at some points. Orlando is not alone in the wooden acting stakes, Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Rose Byrne and Saffron Burrows also rate a mention. Eric Bana was good and Brian Cox obviously had immense fun with his scenery chewing turn. There are a lot of laughs to be had and it's a feast for the eyes. It's not a film you can take seriously at all.
Spirited Away - I'm not really keen on anime at all but I loved this film. I'm really glad I was pushed to see this as I enjoyed it immensely. It's a wonderfully told story and it's quite creepy and scary in parts. It's full of colour and fabulous detail.
I'd recommend it to one and all. If you do see it make sure you watch it with the subtitles and not the dub. I watched it with the dub on a second viewing and found it changed the film quite a lot and not for the better.
[b/]Two Weeks Notice[/b] - Totally dull with no redeeming features.
