The Hulk. Very good I thought. The wipes were very good but after while they got a bit annoying. Very well done though

Next films I'll watch are the underrated b-pic Cohen and Tate on ITV 4 and then the masterpiece on BBC2 after Match of the Day... The Wild Bunch

16 Blocks - I really enjoyed it. My friend said she didn't recognise Bruce Willis at first because he looked so haggard Big Grin. Mos Def's character is really irritating at first, but after a while I really felt for him. Fun action film, plus it had David Morse in it, he pops up in films sometimes and I never knew his name until today, but I'm always strangely attracted to him Smile

Tracks - A 15 year-old gets sent to adult prison for five years for mansalughter when he and his friends derail a train. I thought it was good but unpleasant in places. I didn't like the main character to start off with, but when you find out what happened to him I ended up feeling sorry for him, even though it in no way excuses what they did.

I saw The Matador with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. I was a little skeptical at first, but it was hilarious. Dark, gritty comedy. A little ironic bc Pierce Brosnan plays a washed up hitman on his fall from grace...kind of mirrors his exit from the bond franchise!

R-Point - A bunch of Korean soldiers on the verge of ending their tours of duty in Vietnam are sent to an island to search for some missing soldiers. It all goes spooky and their chances of returning to Korea get slimmer every day.
It looked interesting but it's very confusing. Because the soldiers are constantly wearing helmets it was very difficult to tell them apart. Consequently when something happens you don't know who the hell it has happened to. That makes it a bit harder to give a crap.
It's quite atmospheric and there is a spooky vibe but it didn't really do anything for me.

The Island - I wanted to see this to see how bad it must be. Some of the reviews I read were dreadful. I was really rather surprised at the end because this film is not bad at all.
If you are looking for an intelligent debate into the pros and cons of cloning then this obviously isn't the film to watch. I found it very entertaining. There are some excellent action set pieces and Ewan McGregor is very effective as the bewildered hero.
There are some cheesey moments but don't let that put you off. It's no masterpiece but it didn't deserve the slagging it got from the press.

Strangers On A Train - A chance encounter on a train between two strangers ends in murder.
I did like this film but I thought the hero was a bit of a wet blanket. The villain was cool though, very creepy and quite plausible.
Ideally it would have been a bit longer.

Final Destination 2 - Lots of grizzly, inventive deaths but lacks the tension of the first film. Watchable.

Capturing The Friedmans - Compelling and disturbing documentary of a family in meltdown. This film follows the story of Jesse and Arnold Friedman who have been arrested on multiple charges of molesting young boys.
One of the most disturbing things to me is that Jesse seemed to be convicted on hearsay alone. There was no physical evidence and only the witness statements of some confused kids. Will we ever know if Jesse was really involved ?
I found the eldest son's total hatred and hostility towards his mother a bit weird. But then again I don't think she was ever going to win any mother of the year awards. Frown

Intolerable Cruelty - A perfect title for this awful film. I guess it was supposed to be funny. They got it wrong on all levels. Intolerable b0llocks.

Life As A House - A man (Kevin Kline) loses his job and gets diagnosed with terminal cancer. He decides that he should build the house he always wanted to but put off doing. He also makes his sullen teenage son (Hayden Christensen) live with him so he can get to know him.
Not the kind of thing I would usually watch but I found myself really getting into it. Christensen does moody teen very well and Kline is good as always. I did feel a bit weepy at the end. I thought the Mum was a bit of a cow though.

Bullet In The Head - 3 friends get into trouble in Hong Kong and go to Vietnam to make their fortunes as war profiteers. Unsurprisingly it all goes tits up.
Loads of people have raved to me about this John Woo film - it's his best, it's a classic blah blah. I thought it was ok but that's it. I thought some of it was ludicrous. I think I had a dodgy copy as well because the sound was rubbish.

Four Brothers - A woman gets gunned down in a mini-mart robbery. At first it seems like a random act but then it becomes clear she was set up. Her four adopted sons return to avenge her death.
Some of this is pretty cringeworthy. The macho gangster posturing by Marky Mark is hilarious. It improves though and there is a decent car chase and lots of shooting. Chiwetel Ejiofor is suitably menacing as the unhinged Mr Big. He was one of the best things about it actually. I liked Garrett Hedlund as the youngest bro as well. I could have done without the shrieking latina girlfriend/sterotype.

Show Me Love - A film about two teenage girls in small town Sweden. They couldn't be more different. Elin is with the in-crowd and very pretty. Agnes is a nobody with no friends and has a huge crush on Elin.
A very accurate portrayal of teenage life in a nowhere town. The boredom of both the girls reminds me a bit of how I was at that age. I liked this film, I thought it was very touching.

MI: III - Got me in summer movies mood anyway. Action with a human side. Abrams direction was great as was the music. Phillip Seymour Hoffman stole the show. 3/5

The Assasination Bureau

I do love this film, it's silly yet smart at the same time. It's one of those films that tries to be of another time period yet is still heavily influenced by the presen (Watch Kelly's Heroes and you'll see what I mean). It tells the story of Ivan Dragomiloff a respected Aristocrat who happens to be the head of a business that involves Assasination. Diana Rigg plays feminist journalist Sonya Winter and plans to bring ruin to his madcap business by hiring his service to kill him. He takes up the challenge as he sees it as an opportunity to be rid of his associates once and for all. He travels all throughout Europe where he kills off his members one by one, partly for survival and partly to save Europe's royal dynasties. Oliver Reed is delighful if a little conservative in this and has great chemisty with Diana Rigg, it's basically the late forever great Ollie doing what he did best; playing rogues 9/10

Last Days - 6/10
I have to see this again, because I really don't know what to make of it. It just sort of washed over me the first time. It was like cinematic hypnotism. I'm a little scared in case I've been brainwashed somehow by Van Sant. If I start clucking like a chicken, you'll know it was the film.

Slither - 8/10
A great ride of a film. The mayor is one of those characters that blows a packed theatre away. If you don't find some enjoyment in this, you truly have no 'movie soul'!

Four Brothers - 7/10
Some great moments, but ultimately disappointing. It was interesting hearing the producers talk about making it like a western, because that didn't really come across that well on the screen. It was better than most action films I've seen, but not as good as I had hoped from a Singleton flick.

The Cave - 3/10
For a film with so much action it was unbelievably boring. It's a great accomplishment to make me want all of the cast members to suffer horrific and painful deaths, even the attractive women. It doesn't help if you've already seen The Descent, because next to that the film just looks even worse.

I watched "Murder by Numbers" starring Sandra Bullock today. It's a few years old, I think it was out in 2001/2002, but I give it a thumbs up. It kept my 100% attention throughout... something few films do so well.

Watched all of Nightwatch (the russian one)and enjoyed it for the most part although the side story (the cursed girl) took too much time. It felt at times like a TV series, i.e you could split the two stories. The ending came to early and we still have ages to wait before the next installment (unless you speak Russian)

Watched Night Watch.....Rubbish film...i was fighting boredom.

Also watch Blood Rayne...boy i'm sooo glad i never paid any money to watch that film or i'd be one pissed of mo'fo.....called it awful is an understatement and someone has to invent a new word to decribe how awful this film is....a decided waste of acting talent....i mean Ben Kingsley....for fooks sake the guy played Ghandi...als Michael Masden....who played Mr Blonde.....Uwe Boll should be shot but from the looks of things...i have to get in line.
