Boy Eats Girl - Zombie film set in Ireland. Teenagers get zombified & run around. Utter balls. AVOID !
Serenity - The film follow up to defunct prog, Firefly.
The crew are still being chased by The Alliance. The bad guys have hired The Operative to track down the Tams. I did enjoy this film but I didn't feel as 'woo' and 'yay' as I thought I would.
I liked The Operative, he was marvelously malevolent. Chiwetel Ejiofor really is a excellent actor.
My mum could understand what was going on so I don't think it's absolutely necessary for you to have watched the series. Obviously it would be better if you had watched the prog first.
Good old fashioned action romp.
The Edukators - Jan and Peter go around rich peoples houses and vandalise them but never steal anything. One night Peter's girlfriend gets involved and it all goes tits up.
A thought-provoking film. Made me question some of my values. When does your idealism die ?
If I had a complaint to make it would be about Julia Jentsch (Jule), she rubbed me up the wrong way and as a result I found it hard to have any empathy with her character or situation.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Robert Downey Junior is a petty thief who ends up in Hollywood. He gets entangled in a murder mystery with Gay Perry, a P.I and Harmony Lane, a struggling actress.
A really enjoyable film - sharp and funny. It showed Hollywood and its inhabitants as I imagine they really must be. There is a great plot, ace script and hilarious turn by Val Kilmer as Gay Perry. Recommended.
Highway - Jack (Jared Leto) and Pilot (Jake Gyllenhaal) are two small-time Vegas drug dealers who have to leave town when Jack's boss discovers Jack has been making sweet love to his wife. They go on a road trip to Seattle and pick up a prostitute (Selma Blair) and a druggie nutter (John C. McGinley) on the way.
I read some pretty bad reviews of this before I saw it but was pleasantly surprised. It's not the best road trip film and some bits are a bit cringey but I liked it. It's set in the week when Kurt Cobain killed himself and I found myself getting all nostalgic.
Kinky Boots - A bloke gets left his Dad's shoe factory but he isn't a 'shoe' man. His problems get worse when the factory gets into financial trouble and he has to start laying off his loyal workers. A chance encounter with a transvestite named Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor) gives him an idea of how to save the business.
This film is dull, so dull you wouldn't even believe me if I could put it into words. Definitely a case of a missed opportunity. Zzzzzzz.
A History Of Violence - A quiet family man (Viggo Mortenson) becomes a local hero when he kills a couple of blokes who hold up his diner. The results of this threaten both him and his family.
I was very disappointed in this film. I really wanted to love as much as everyone else did. I understand why people rate it so highly but it just didn't do *it* for me. I think some of the casting was a mistake - the daughter was awful. However, I thought Viggo Mortenson was excellent. The change in him when he had to defend his family really impressed me. His whole face seemed to change.
Anger Management - A decent premise but poorly executed. A waste of a good cast and just not funny. Dreadful ending as well.
Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever - Every single person involved in this production should feel deeply ashamed of themselves. Even now I cannot understand how I managed to get to the end. I think I must have been hypnotized by the horror before my eyes. Please do not attempt to ever watch this film.
Calvaire (The Ordeal) - Marc Stevens (Laurent Lucas) is a singer who has to travel a long way to get to an important gig. His van breaks down in a backwoods place but luckily he finds an inn. The innkeeper seems very happy to see him...perhaps too happy. What happens next is a mixture of the bizarre, horror and surreal comedy. I can't really describe it but there are touches of Misery, Deliverence and maybe a little Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Weird but in a good way.
