I'm as caring and sensitive as the next man, in fact I think Titanic is a cinematic masterpiece that I enjoy more and more with each repeated viewing.
However, The Lake House I found to be a complete load of rubbish. That's two hours of my life I won't see again. To be honest two hours of my life I wouldn't want to see again.

That sounds dissapointing.. I was hoping it would be a good movie as the trailer looked interesting IMO. I would still like to see it for myself, but it doesn't sound all too positive.

That's very true, will have to wait and see.

When he mucks up the wedding rehersal he runs off to the woods and finds himself married to the Corpse Bride and taken to the underworld. A pretty original idea mostly well executed. I admired the animation and the voice cast but overall the film felt a little flat as if it didn't really get going. The songs weren't very good and really cut up the film. Nearly a very good film but not quite.
I've seen this film too and I would have to agree, it was quite flat, I expected more from this film. Good review though verno.

Zombie Honeymoon (really). Terrible film, poor acting and sfx. Not too sure if it was released as a joke cos it was shit.
Sympathy for Lady Vengance. Good but a completely different film from Oldboy. It was thoughtful and beautifuly shot and nice to watch, where else would you see a fat female prisoner getting sucked off in a pool? Its just that I missed the hammers.
I admire your honesty bobwallett! Your post made me laugh
I watched The Brown Bunny last night which stars Vincent Gallo, who wrote, produced, edited and directed this film. I really like his work and I think he's a great actor. He always seems to play the offbeat, slightly odd type characters. I particularly liked his role in Arizona Dream with Johnny Depp. Anyway, this film is strange. There's no real story to it. Gallo plays Bud Clay, a motorcycle racer who drives to LA to find his old girfriend. I think it's a journey of self discovery and overall enjoyed it. 8/10

Ultraviolet - Not since Aeon Flux has a movie sucked this much. Actually it's worse than it. Awful, truly awful.
Lake House - check out Il Mare (the original, much better).
Just My Luck - Your typical rom com crap, apparently it was supposed to be Lohan's first grown up movie, eh no. Could have been clever but went with the formulaic. The funniest part is when Mcfly are announced as the best best band in years, that was hilarious.
Pretty Persuasion - Excellent. Evan Rachel Wood is a revelation and James Woods as her extremely racist father is superb. Well worth a watch.

Everything is Illuminated - 9/10. Loved the characters in this film and it's really something different and very well done. It's half subtitled half English so maybe not for everyone if you don't like subtitles but give it a go, I doubt you'd be disappointed.
Pretty Persuasion - 9/10. Great little film actually, the young female leads really carried it. A little stereotypical with the asian character unfortunately but it is American.
Keeping Mum - 9/10. Really enjoyed this actually, just what I was in the mood for a good comedy. Hardly perfect but nice to see Rowan Atkinson play subtle and the women leads were all great.
Shopgirl - wonderful cinematography and a nice score. Sort of a less OTT 'Secretary' with a hint of Woody Allen circa 'Husbands & Wives' (I thought of the Juliette Lewis subplot). Jason Schwartzman and Claire Danes are great and Steve Martin offers one of his great straight turns (the film is adapted from his novella of the same name). Loved the fact there was a subplot featuring the band 'The Hot Tears', which includes the former bass-player from Low (Zak Sally) and former Red House Painter Mark Kozelek - whose character was a mentor to Schwartzman's Jeremy. Heck, 'Carry Me Ohio' by Sun Kil Moon was even on the soundtrack...
