Tallageda Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby 9/10

Loved this! Very Funny and brilliant performances from Will Ferrell, John C Reilly and Sacha Baron Cohen. Check this one out!

World Trade Centre 7/10

Was a little disappointed with this as it's an Oliver Stone film and I'm a fan of his work. Nic Cage puts in a decent performance but for me, Stephen Dorff stole the film from his brief but effective appearance.

Little Man 8/10

Another great funny film from the Wayans brothers.

Pulse 2/10

I walked out after an hour! Terrible film.

Miami Vice 5/10

Decent performance from Jamie Foxx but Colin Farrell spoiled it for me. By far Michael Mann's worst film. Compare this to Heat...!

Under Suspicion 8/10

Cracking investigative-cop type drama starring two heavyweights, Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. Excellent film and good twist at the end. Monica Belluci is seriously sexy in this film!

You, Me & Dupree 7/10

Great feel good rom com. Only watched it for Kate Hudson.

Accepted 9/10

Closer
Story focusing on two couples whose relationships get very complicated.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this but I was glad I watched it in the end. One of the break-ups bought back a lot of memories for me about how bloody awful two people can be to each other.
I had sympathy for all of them except Dan because I thought he was a tit.

The Amityville Horror (2005)
Newlyweds move into a house that was the site of a mass murder. Spooky goings on ensue.
Pretty enjoyable, there are a couple of jumps but it isn't really scary. I thought the cast did a good job (the kids aren't annoying) and Ryan Reynolds is very buff. I cannot compare it to the original because I haven't seen it.

Daredevil
Ben Affleck as a superhero ! I scoff at the very notion. He and Jennifer Garner make a very wooden pairing. I found it totally unengaging. Apparently the Director's Cut is superior. I bloody well hope so too.

Days Of Being Wild
Set in the 1960s. Playboy Yuddy has two young ladies vying for his affections but Yuddy is a very complicated guy.
It's a bit like a Chinese Alfie but darker. The lead character is very unsympathetic and you wonder why anyone, woman or man, would be involved with him.
This film is linked in character to In The Mood For Love and by theme to 2046. Not the most enjoyable of Wong Kar-Wai's films but still worth a watch if you are interested in him.

Can't Hardly Wait
Teen movie about a graduation party. A very sweet & enjoyable afternoon of viewing with lots of familiar faces.

Doom
I got this hoping it would be so bad it was good but it was just bad. The Rock's 'performance' made me cringe. Terribly dull. Avoid.

Pay It Forward
A teacher sets his class a project to make the world better and one pupil takes him literally.
I admired the fact that the pay it forward idea didn't immediately improve the lives of the people involved. It felt more realistic that way. The ending was quite surprising too.

Madagascar
Decent enough film but doesn't quite gel in the end. Some parts were very good - the penguins, the monkeys, Julian and Maurice but I felt the main characters, with the exception of Melman, were a bit bland.

Hostage
An ex-hostage negotiator turned small town cop has to save a family held hostage or his own family will be killed.
Rather entertaining with some tense moments. I think the end is a bit silly and lets the film down though.

Munich
At the beginnig of the film you see the main character Avner watching the Olympic hostage situation live on television and later showing all the people who had died. The names and faces
of the people who died made me feel quite emotional and nothing that happened in film could match up to that feeling.
I thought Eric Bana was very good and should have been Oscar nominated. He played the conflicting emotions excellently. The supporting cast were also brilliant.

Forza Milan
Champions of Europe 2007

SNAKES on a plane

Went and saw this the other day and I quite enjoyed it.It had a bit of everything in it.Quite a few jumpy moments. If you are terrified of snakes it's not a film I would recommend seeing.

Volver - You either love Almodovar for his surreal outlook of femininity and life and death or loathe him for his ego-fuelled, pompous filmmaking. Personally I love his work and Volver is no exception. Penelope Cruz is stunning (complete with prosthetic ass), and who knew she could sing so well!
Tragic in places, funny in others and highly enjoyable.

You, Me and Dupree - Once again, Owen Wilson stars in a predictable farce that's way too long and ultimately you leave the cinema wondering why you wasted your time. Dull, boring with only the odd moment of humour.

Severance - Wickedly funny but not for the faint hearted. What I liked about it was the way the horror didn't overshadow the comedy and vice-versa. What I don't like is the over use of gore, is it necessary to graphically see limbs being torn off? I don't think so, but that's just me.
Tim McInnerney steals the film.

The Front Line - Not as bad as I was expecting, but the story gets caught up between a family's struggle for asylum in Dublin from the Congo and a heist movie. If it had chosen one subject and stuck to it it would have fared better.
A brave effort from the filmmakers though, with the obviously small budget, to try and make something more ambitious and different than the usual fare of bland Irish cinema.

An Inconvenient Truth - An excellent, thought provoking documentary from Al Gore about global warming and it's effects.

RV (Runaway Vacation) - I was actually surprised how painless, even on occasion fairly amusing I found this. Probably mostly thanks to Robin Williams charm. 5/10.

Volver - I did enjoy this film though must say the storyline didn't hold many surprises for me so some of it was spent kind of waiting for the plot to catch up. I would have been happy to watch this at home rather than the big screen but it had lots of charm and nice to see an all female starring cast. Penelope Cruz was good, as were they all, and it looked great. 7/10

It wasn't actually Penelope Cruz's voice btw but she did act it very well. Looks like she fooled you. Wink

Wicked film

Loved da CGI, the cast and acting, and the storyline was heavy ( a bit hard 2 follow at times)

Ong-Bak 10/10

Perfect martial film. I'd never seen that much of Tony Jaa before but after seeing this film, I'm hooked and want more! The guy is a genius and hard as nails. His physical ability is amazing and I'm almost tempted to say I prefer him to Jet Li, but not quite. They're both as equal in they're own way, although I feel maybe Jaa would have him in a real fight being a Muay Thai fighter which is one of the most feared, if not the most feared martial art in the world. Jet Li seems to generate more power though, which doesn't surprise me as he's Wing Chun trained. Tony Jaa is amazing and deserves all he gets from his action/acting career and like Jackie Chan, does all his own stunts. A truly excellent film.

While not as good as Ong-Bak, The Warrior King has some great fight scenes too.

Yes, a lady named Estrella Morente sang it but Penelope apparently trained for 2 months to get the right feel for the song and the posture and the flamenco passion just right.

The Squid and the Whale - Not really sure what I feel on this one to be quite honest. Some of it was really cringe-worthy, it was like you actually had TOO much insight on the characters and that perhaps you didn't want that much information but I guess that's what also made the film and the characters compelling. A strange, but not wholly unpalatable fruit. 6.5/10.

Godfather II last night on Film 4.
Absolute class.

Hopefully they'll show part 3 as Ive only ever seen it once.
All I can really remember from it was not liking Sophia Coppola and hating the ending.

You, Me & Dupree - It was funny in parts but not enough parts to make it worth watching. They all deserve better than this, even Owen Wilson.
