Wilde - The story of the life and struggles of Oscar Wilde.
I think Stephen Fry was born to play this role. He was perfect. I enjoyed the film but I have no idea if it was an accurate dipiction of his life. I am certainly interested in finding out more.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe - I wasn't at all keen but I needed something to bulk up my Lovefilm list with. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. The film is a little earnest at times and some of the acting is a bit creaky but overall it is quite enjoyable.
My Summer Of Love - A tale of obssession and deception and the yearning for something more in life. Mona and Tamsin meet up one summer and fall in love. But is Tamsin all she seems.
Good performances from Paddy Considine and Nathalie Press but Emily Blunt has got on my nerves in everything I've seen her in. This film is no different. She *is* good at spoiled rich girls though.
Equilibrium - Set in a fascist future where all forms of emotion are banned and everybody has to take mood suppressing drugs.
Illogical, cheesy, cheap, dull and a rip off of several other films.
Kung Fu Hustle - In 1940s Shanghai a wannabe gangster tries to join the notorious Axe Gang.
One of the most enjoyable films I have seen in a long time. I watched it again pretty much straight away. I would urge you all to see it.
Very energetic, very funny and very sweet. A joy.
Address Unknown - A very bleak film set in a poor South Korean village. The theme of the film the aftermath of the Korean War and it's effect on these villagers 15 - 20 years later. It's very, very depressing and features murder, rape, bullying, the slaughter of dogs and a hideously bad performance by the one American actor (so bad he probably wouldn't even get onto Hollyoaks !).
The film has some interesting things to say but unless you want to be totally brought down I'd avoid it.
Running Scared - I won't bother with the plot because it doesn't matter. This film is awful, one of the worst I have ever seen. It's totally absurd and over the top but not in a good way. Paul Walker drives around killing people and screaming the 'f' word every five seconds, there's a gormless kid who gets into trouble with pimps, prostitutes, the Russian mafia, the Italian mafia and, to put the cherry on top, some murderous paedophiles. The nicest thing I can say about it is that the end credits are quite good. Avoid this sludge at all costs.
Unleashed - Bob Hoskins hams it up as an evil criminal who is horrid to innocent killing machine, Danny.
I expected this to be all kinds of cr*p but it's actually pretty good. Between the bone crunching bouts of violence it's actually rather sweet.
Love In Thoughts - Set in Twenties Germany. Guenther, his sister and best friend let loose on a weekend bender of sex, drugs and alcohol. Undemanding and enjoyable fare starring Daniel Bruhl as Paul. Paul is in love with Hilde but Hilde is in love with Hans who is having an an affair with... You get the picture. It isn't as simple as all that as lots of philosopical ideas are discussed as well. Worth a rent.
Transamerica - A transexual is on the verge of her operation when she discovers she has a son in trouble in New York.
I had really high hopes for this but ended up being slightly disappointed as the film was less than the sum of its parts. I found it a bit dull and predictable.
