Weak and unfunny, tries to be a mix of comedy and melodrama and fails. Not even Christopher Walken could save it.

The Devil Wears Prada
The all too familiar premise of small town girl goes to the big city etc. etc. but this is a cut above the rest due to the wonderful performances of the cast. As always Stanley Tucci is superb and of course Meryl Streep, she epitomises the phrase Film Star.

Clerks 2. Rude, rascist, blasphemous, disgusting. Best film I've seen this year.

Who Am I? 8/10

Jackie Chan stars, directs and stunt co-ordinate's this great martial arts film. Love his stunt at then end on the glass building, no wires, hundreds of feet up in the air... the guy is crazy!

The better half forced me to watch 'Shes the Man' and 'Take the Lead'over the weekend.

Both not as bad as i thought they'd be, but neither warrant a second viewing.

Now looking forward to The Departed.

i liked little miss sunshine a lot. very sweet and had the whole american indie 'life-affirming' feel without becoming cheesy and sentimental. and it was also damn funny.

Collateral 7/10

Tom cruise is a hitman hired to kill a number of people throughout the night and to help him get around the city, he enlists the help of Jamie Foxx to drive him from murder to murder. This film is ok and I thought Cruise, Foxx and Mark Ruffalo were all excellent, however, Mann's poor direction let the film down. Decent overall but nothing to rave about. I just feel that if somebody else had directed this film, it would have been very good, perhaps even excellent. Too many aerial and steadcam shots for my liking.

Radio 9/10

Absolutely superb film which is based on a true story. Cuba Gooding Jr is Radio, a mentally challenged man who is befriended by the school football coach, as excellently played by Ed Harris. Coach intergrates Radio into high school and he soon starts to learn about life, sports, and becomes an inspiration to the school's football team. This is a truly wonderful film and is very powerful emotionally. Excellent performances from everybody, particularly Ed Harris.

Casino Royale
No not that one, the 1954 version. Barry Nelson plays 007 in this TV film, Peter Lorre plays Le Chiffre. Interesting to watch but hard to get into it as the picture and sound quality were very poor.

The Departed
Superb acting, brilliant directing and glorious editing. A film not to be missed.

Accepted
Why oh why do I bother with this sort of trash. Painfully unfunny.

Brothers of the Head
Very well made and looks convincingly real. This bizarre tale is actually quite tender at times.

The X-Files
First viewing since its cinema release. Thoroughly enjoyable but a pity that it didn't have a more solid conclusion.

Apocalypse Now Redux
Seen this so many times I couldn't even guess the total amount.
A masterpiece. Plain and simple.

Serenity (again) still funny and clever. Great visuals and actors. If you like sci-fi and westerns give it a go.

Alexander - Oh Oliver, what happened to you ? *shakes head*. I cringed my way through this. WTF was up with Angelina Jolie - surely a contender for worst accent in a film. Pure comedy.

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - Rather enjoyable flick. Highlights include Sam Rockwell as Zaphod, the improbability drive and the animated entries from the guide. Negative points are Mos Def and the fact that it felt a bit rushed. Totally Rockwell's film.

Bring It On - Was persuaded to watch this by my sister. Inoffensive teen fluff. Not really my thing.

Lucky Number Slevin - A case of mistaken identities etc etc. A bit amusing to start with but then it got irritating. Lucy Liu's character was dumb. The whole film left me feeling deeply unsatisfied.

The Hills Have Eyes - I haven't seen the original so have nothing to compare this to but I thought it was pretty good for what it was.
Some pretty shocking and unexpected bits that didn't conform to the horror norm. Also a little more character development than you usually get. If you don't like extreme film violence then you should avoid this.

Cache (Hidden) - A married couple are terrorized by a series of videotapes planted by their front door.
A film that I didn't really enjoy but challenged me and gave me a lot to think about. I don't think you could warm to the lead characters and perhaps you aren't even meant to.
It does contain a scene that genuinely shocked me and made gasp. Depite the tension of the film it came totally out of the blue.
This will never be my favourite Hanecke film but I can grudgingly appreciate it.

Capote - The story of the writing of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. One of my favourite films of this year. This film really rests on the shoulders of Hoffman's Capote and he totally succeeds. His Oscar was well deserved. That isn't to say the rest of the cast don't do their bit, they are all brilliant especially Clifton Collins Jnr as Perry Smith.
A compelling and beautifully shot film.

Junebug - An art dealer travels to North Carolina to meet her new smalltown in-laws.
I found this film pretty dull save for the performance of Amy Adams as the very upbeat Ashley. The film feels very realistic in that not all conflicts are neatly solved at the end of 90 mins but I was still bored.

Jackass: The Movie - There isn't any plot or characters and it's really just an extended episode of the series. That doesn't stop it from being very funny. I laughed like a drain. It is a bit hit and miss but when they hit it is ace. A guilty pleasure.

13: Tzameti - A young man follows instructions meant for somebody else and has no idea where they will take him.
Excellent low budget, black and white thriller.
It all starts off quite ordinary but then descends into a nightmare for the main character. It's very spare and there isn't much dialogue. It is almost unbearably tense in the later scenes. Recommended.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Tonight:

The Machinist - recommended to me by a friend and one I wanted to see when it came out but somehow missed. Will report my findings later Smile

Last night:

The Descent - above average Brit horror that actually made me jump and go 'ewww' quite a lot, unlike most.

Night before:

Tell Me Something - Well executed, atmospheric, interesting and intelligent Korean horror/thriller. Unfortunately far too many plot holes and head-scratching questions. Might have to watch yet again!

Last Days - Gus Van Sant's poorest effort 'inspired' by the final days of Kurt Cobain. Sorry, but this is just rubbish compared to Elephant & Jerry. Just didn't see the point, and the bit where he dies and his soul climbs out of his body is just excruciatingly, laughably embarrassing. Can't believe the reviews quoted on the box:

"Brilliant film, captivating and thrilling" ***** The Guardian

"Beautiful, haunting and bold" **** Uncut

"Mesmerising" The Independent

"Daring" ***** Total Film

"Genius" The Observer

More like:

"Completely pants" martianrobot... 1/10 (for the snorkel anorak the Kurt lookeee-likeee was wearing)

'Titanic' review : I thought it faintly ridiculous the old lady viewing the wreck chucked that necklace into the water... I mean, she could've raised a fortune for the RNLI with that.
