To make this post more entertaining, I've devised a game where you have to guess what my word of the day is. Be warned, I'm extremely cunning.
Half Nelson - 8/10It's not just another inspirational teacher movie. I promise, it's not. Honestly, Coolio doesn't even feature ONCE on the soundtrack, no fooling! I heard the synopsis and approached this film with some trepidation, but it made me watch. I'm starting to think Ryan Gosling is a damn good actor. And I've
seen Murder By Numbers!
Friends With Money - 5/10I love watching Catherine Keener, I love watching Joan Cusack, I 'appreciate' Francis McDormand, and I get turned on by Jennifer Aniston a little bit, but I
still couldn't enjoy this. Generally speaking, I like stories about 'Rich People's Angst' but this felt insincere at best and pretty distasteful at worst. But still, Catherine Keener and Joan Cusack! I like women who act drunk all the time. Actually watching Keener, Cusack and McDormand is a bit like seeing the three stages of inebriation - tipsy, ratfaced and hungover. And I guess in that situation Jennifer Aniston would be like the designated driver. Don't worry, you're not alone, I lost track of what I was saying a long time ago.
The Sentinel - 6/10A film with the sole purpose of proving that Michael Douglas can still run about whilst holding a gun. Seriously, that's pretty much it. Kiefer Sutherland is basically Jack Bauer, only with less back story and attractive daughters. I guess there must have been a sense of trepidation about how Jack Bauer would look on the big screen, so they decided to give him a trial run. And I still can't work out what the point of Eva Longoria was. I mean, I DO know why she was in there, and I thank the producers for giving me something to look at every so often, but sometimes you just want to have another reason to watch. Even Playboy gives you a bit of blurb, dammit!
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer - 3/10I watched this because I found the title quite funny. It is pretty funny to be fair! As with most horror sequels, the audience is already in a state of trepidation, expecting the worst. But I was actually pleasantly surprised. A searing study about dealing with death and the overwhelming impact that guilt can have on people. Oh wait, sorry, I'm talking out of my a-hole. It's not like that at all.
World Trade Center - 8/10I approached this with a great deal of trepidation, and initially I didn't think much of it. But the more I thought about it the more I liked it and liked what Oliver Stone was trying to do. The buttock numbing factor (BNF) is quite high, but the subject matter and performances (for the most part) are pretty good at taking your mind off it. Be prepared for some really corny dialogue though.
Kidulthood - 6/10It may be realistic and have decent enough performances and all, but I still couldn't shake how it reminded me of one of those C4 School Learning dramas. You know, the ones that teach you not to do drugs or have sex. And I've never broken those rules since!
