The Black Dahlia.......WTF? Very unimpressed. I'm a fan of Mr De Palma and this is not his most shinning glory at all. Quite possibly one of the worst films i've seen this year.

When i was not fighting boredom i was struggling to to work out just what the hell was going on and vice-versa. I am very disappointed with this.

Erm, I watched Fun with Dick and Jane last night. Meh, I got a laugh out of Jim and Tea but nothing particularly special, just Jim being Jim.

The Last Kiss
This remake of the Italian film, L'Ultimo Bacio, works. It's honest, touching and gives a realistic look on relationships unlike the usual garbage Hollywood throws our way.

Marie-Antoinette
Wonderfully decadent and the way modern music is used for the soundtrack works perfectly. It's getting a lot of bad press but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the costumes/sets are stunning.

The Guardian
While there's nothing wrong with The Guardian as such, apart from it being too long, if you've seen Top Gun, Days of Thunder, An Officer and a Gentleman & Heartbreak Ridge, well you've pretty much seen this one.

Hard Candy. What a waste of time. Started of well. Was he/was he not a paedo? Good snappy dialogue.
Then it descends into a typical chase - twist ending.

I really didnt see what the critics saw.

To make this post more entertaining, I've devised a game where you have to guess what my word of the day is. Be warned, I'm extremely cunning.

Half Nelson - 8/10
It's not just another inspirational teacher movie. I promise, it's not. Honestly, Coolio doesn't even feature ONCE on the soundtrack, no fooling! I heard the synopsis and approached this film with some trepidation, but it made me watch. I'm starting to think Ryan Gosling is a damn good actor. And I've seen Murder By Numbers!

Friends With Money - 5/10
I love watching Catherine Keener, I love watching Joan Cusack, I 'appreciate' Francis McDormand, and I get turned on by Jennifer Aniston a little bit, but I still couldn't enjoy this. Generally speaking, I like stories about 'Rich People's Angst' but this felt insincere at best and pretty distasteful at worst. But still, Catherine Keener and Joan Cusack! I like women who act drunk all the time. Actually watching Keener, Cusack and McDormand is a bit like seeing the three stages of inebriation - tipsy, ratfaced and hungover. And I guess in that situation Jennifer Aniston would be like the designated driver. Don't worry, you're not alone, I lost track of what I was saying a long time ago.

The Sentinel - 6/10
A film with the sole purpose of proving that Michael Douglas can still run about whilst holding a gun. Seriously, that's pretty much it. Kiefer Sutherland is basically Jack Bauer, only with less back story and attractive daughters. I guess there must have been a sense of trepidation about how Jack Bauer would look on the big screen, so they decided to give him a trial run. And I still can't work out what the point of Eva Longoria was. I mean, I DO know why she was in there, and I thank the producers for giving me something to look at every so often, but sometimes you just want to have another reason to watch. Even Playboy gives you a bit of blurb, dammit!

I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer - 3/10
I watched this because I found the title quite funny. It is pretty funny to be fair! As with most horror sequels, the audience is already in a state of trepidation, expecting the worst. But I was actually pleasantly surprised. A searing study about dealing with death and the overwhelming impact that guilt can have on people. Oh wait, sorry, I'm talking out of my a-hole. It's not like that at all.

World Trade Center - 8/10
I approached this with a great deal of trepidation, and initially I didn't think much of it. But the more I thought about it the more I liked it and liked what Oliver Stone was trying to do. The buttock numbing factor (BNF) is quite high, but the subject matter and performances (for the most part) are pretty good at taking your mind off it. Be prepared for some really corny dialogue though.

Kidulthood - 6/10
It may be realistic and have decent enough performances and all, but I still couldn't shake how it reminded me of one of those C4 School Learning dramas. You know, the ones that teach you not to do drugs or have sex. And I've never broken those rules since! Smile..............Frown

Mallrats - Very entertaining and funny comedy

Return to OZ - Very disappointing this. Was expecting an acid trip and that was probably why this fell short for me.

Crank - a decent thriller. Some fun bits. Not bad actually.

Marie Antoinette - Really disappointed with this one. It could have been so good! There was just no consistency throughout the film and though it was nice to look at the amazing costume and sets it didn't come together. The bits where the fun and soundtrack were really strong were great, just a shame for the overall. 6/10.

The Departed - Loved this! Great to see Jack Nicholson on form, great cast altogether and a really good suspenseful film. 9/10.

All The King's Men
Powerful performance from Sean Penn, worthy of an Oscar nod, but Kate Winslet and Mark Ruffalo are wasted in it. The film goes nowhere and ultimately find yourself not caring.

A Good Year
While it's very obvious what's going to happen from the outset, the film is warm, beautifully filmed and has a nice feel good factor to it. A good vintage indeed.

Stick It
Oh for the love...
I mistakenly thought this might have some of the endearing quality that Bring It On had, I can assure you it doesn't. Terrible.

Step Up
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse than Stick It, I went to see this thing. The faults with it are too numerous to mention but the choreography is superb which makes it watchable, barely.
