Blade 2 and Cronos, Cronos was much more immersive than blade and had some subtle performances and relationships. Also watched The Thing, wrote a review on this one, a Classic John Carpenter movie, with some serious atmosphere.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (uncut) - Does exactly what it sez on the tin. A truely grusome film from start to finish and i reckon its pretty good also.

Revolver. Didnt start off too bad but really slid into a world of shit at the confusing/crappy/badly thought out ending.

Apocalypto
What a class piece of filmmaking. Truly excellent. Exquisite photography. And a lovely nod to Apocalypse Now at the beginning.

A Prairie Home Companion
A little too uneven with too much emphasis on some characters and not enough on others.
it does, however, have some very nice moments in it and Meryl Streep & Kevin Kline deliver as usual.

Employee of the Month
While Apocalypto will be on my Best Of list by the end of the year this nonsense will certainly be in the Worst Of. How garbage like this gets greenlighted is beyond me. Truly awful.

White Noise 2
The only reason for going was I like Nathan Fillion. As this type of film goes it wasn't too bad but it just reminds me why I don't usually bother watching films of this kind.

London to Brighton
Alarmingly realistic performances, excellent direction but the star of this is Georgia Groom who plays the little girl, powerful debut. Stark and brutal, an absolute winner.

First viewing on Film4 last night and I have to say I enjoyed it. There's nothing really new here but it has terrific performances from Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges, a thoughful storyline and it's not preachy.
Well worth the viewing.

The Chronicles of Narnia - Decent at best

Saw 3 - Certainly better than number 2. Above average entertainment that starts slow and builds up very well

Wicked City - Not the 1987 Anime version but the 1992 live action version....okay i guess

The pursuit of Happyness - Brilliant film this. Well enjoyed this. Excellent

Rocky Balboa - 8/10
I don't know how people with no interest in the character or the past films might view this. It is very corny in places, nothing great about the script or direction. But as a finish to the series it's very good. Stallone plays the washed-up former champ very well, and with his medically-sculpted face he almost fits the part perfectly. Actually the best bits of the script are the little touches involving Rocky looking back on his past triumphs, because you get the feeling Stallone is putting a lot of himself in there. I liked the montage at the end too, a very nice touch.

An Inconvenient Truth - 8/10
I was almost put off by the descriptions I had heard. Al Gore talking for 90 minutes? Wait, wait, Al Gore talking and giving a slideshow with loads of statistics for 90 minutes? Wait, wait, Al Gore talking and giving a slideshow for half the time, with the rest of the time showing Al Gore staring at a laptop, looking serious? But hey, internet forum-based descriptions can be deceiving. The most effective horror movie I've seen all year.

National Lampoon's Pledge This - 1/10
I can't remember the last time I disliked a film as much as this one. Do NOT see this film, because it will leave you clenching your fists, looking skyward and screaming in anguish at the horrificness (it's a word, I looked it up Ninja) of it all.

The Covenant - 5/10
Harlin, you've done it again! I mean, come on. At least Uwe Boll makes funny commentaries. I recommend this film simply for the 'wee-yatch' line, a line so magnificently appalling that it actually bends time and space, and in doing so goes through some sort of comedy wormhole and becomes great again.

John Tucker Must Die - 5/10
My girlfriend made me watch this.

(Juke, you fool! They're never going to believe you've got a girlfriend!)

Er, I mean my sister made me watch it with her.

(Great! Now they're creeped out that you confused your sister with your girlfriend. Well done sir, well done. Just make your excuses and sneak out before anyone notices.)

Er, er....
*runs out of thread*

Infamous
Personally I preferred the Philip Seymour Hoffman version of Capote but that's not to take away from this. Powerful performance from Toby Jones as Capote and Daniel Craig as Perry Smith is fantastic.

Smokin' Aces 7/10

Not as good as I thought it would be. Solid acting all round from Garcia, Liotta, Affleck and Piven but the film lacked a bit of substance. And the script wasn't that fantastic either, but on the positive side, the film was well paced and had lots of action. Alicia Keys put in a good performance, but I'm being biased because she's fit! Overall a good film, which ultimately belonged to Garcia. His power acting came through in the end and stole the film.

The Toolbox Murders (1978) 3/10

Not to be taken as a serious horror film. Comedy is what I found it to be, the acting was atrocious, the editing was even worse and the whole feel of the film was one of embarrasment for the DOP. I've rated this amatuer production poor but I think I'm being generous with that.

The Last King of Scotland 9/10

Based on the events of the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's regime as seen by his personal physician during the 1970's. This is a fantastic film with an absolutely superb power performance from Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin. James McAvoy was almost equally as excellent but Whitaker is mesmerising as the dictator who murdered 300,000 Ugandan's! Everything about this film is of the highest quality and well done to Film4 for co-producing a near masterpeice! Whitaker gets my vote for Best Actor.

Syriana - Was looking forward to this but felt slightly let down in the end. There was just too much going on. I think I need a second viewing to truly take it all in.
Pretty bloody depressing film tho.

25th Hour
Monty Brogan has 24 hours remaining before he has to go to prison for 7 years. He spends it reevaluating his life and reconnecting with his friends.
I liked the idea and the actors were great but it dragged in places and Ed Norton doesn't do much for me.

The King - A guy leaves the navy and searches for the afther he has never met.
Excellent film. Gael Garcia Bernal is splendidly creepy as Elvis. Loved the ending too.

Hostel - Really, really poor. I like a good slasher as much as the next girl but this was just awful. Promised much but delivered knob all.

L'Enfant - Sonia and Bruno are a pair of young thieves with a new baby to take care of.
They do ok until Bruno sells the baby for cash.
A deserved winner at Cannes. The film is very deceptive and you think it is going to be unrelentingly bleak but it isn't. I liked it a lot.

Susie Gold - Like a Jewish version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Full of cliche and oy vey stereotypes. The acting left much to be desired as well. Avoid.

Switchblade Romance - A really chilling slasher/stalker film. It was very effective right up until the last 10 minutes which spoiled the whole thing. The ending totally negated everything that had gone before no matter how you tried to explain it. Pity.

Good Night, And Good Luck - Fascinating film. I was engrossed from start to finish. Proof positive that there were no good old days. Excellent cast and great presentation.

Inside Man - A refreshing treat of a film. It was very well plotted and there was some welcome humour and snappy dialogue. I enjoyed it immensely. Well done Spike Lee.

White Oleander - After Astrid's mother is imprisoned for murder we follow her journey through a series of foster homes. This film makes pretty grim viewing but it isn't without hope. Michelle Pfeiffer hams it up as the homicidal mother.
