So what do you think of it?

I thought it was average compared to the other two. The standard set by "the curse of the black pearl" and "dead mans chest" was very high and this film didnt not meet those standards. The storyline with Will Turner (Orlando bloom) and Elizibeth Swann (Keira knightly) was pathetic and ridiculous. The stroyline involving Calipso (i wont elaborate i dont want to ruin anything) was complicated and weird.

Jack sparrow (Johnny Depp, Barbossa (geoffrey rush) and Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) saved this movie for me. They were fantastic and gave brilliant performances.

MY OVERALL RATING = 7/10 (i would give "curse of the black pearl" 10/10 and "dead mans chest" 9/10)

At World's End does for The Black Pearl what Spiderman 3 did for Spiderman and Matrix 3 did for Matrix, ruined the originality of what were exceptional story pieces. Now that’s not to say they are bad films, they're not, but the magic has been lost from them.

Overall I enjoyed At World's End, I didn't find it confusing or boring, as a lot of critics are labelling it and it has easily one of the best wedding ceremonies ever committed to film. The final hour of the film has some glorious action set pieces and the character of Davy Jones is easily the best CGI so far to be seen on screen. And the strangeness of the re-introduction of Jack Sparrow looked like it was straight out of Time Bandits, Terry Gilliam would have been proud of it.

After having little or no time for the characters of Will and Elizabeth in the previous two outings, to my surprise I found myself caring about their outcome, and stay until the end of the credits to see more. Bill Nighy and Geoffrey Rush chew up their surroundings and both are on top form here.
Apparently while At World’s End was being filmed the script was still being written, and it shows. Some scenes seem awkwardly inserted and the dialogue clunky. Characters that had pivotal roles in the previous two films, Norrington and Governor Swann for example, were dismissed far too quickly while more screen time is given to characters like Tia Dalma and for someone that was only introduced late in Dead Man’s Chest, you find yourself not really caring about her. I was also disappointed that the writers gave Sao Feng so little to do and say.
The problem with the film is that it gets caught up in sub plot after sub plot to tell a proper, decent story.

While At World’s End lacks the charm of the first film it is far superior to Dead Man’s Chest.

I enjoyed it tho i think the first two are better. I thought the Calypso storyline kind of didn't go anywhere, left me a bit confused, lol! I thought Barbossa was really good tho. Smile

i hated it, such a disappointment compared to the other 2, which were by no means great films.
this was just too long, and there were too many characters and too many plots....resulting in one big mess.
the middle hour was unbelievably confusing and very dull.
the first one was ok, the second mediocre and this was abysmal!

See ye in another life brother Smile

I haven't seen it all yet but from what I have seen and what I know, I would have rathered there had just been Curse of the Black Pearl and not a trilogy. The first installment was just brilliant, not a thing wrong with it, fast paced and clear unconfusing plots. Dead Mans Chest was slow and quite confusing but I enjoyed Jack and Elizabeth together, whereas I was overall disappointed with At Worlds End. I expected more. And Willabeth bored me too, I didnt want it to go back to them after DMC. Once again, Johnny Depp was the highlight. And a killer soundtrack, although again, the first was better.

I personally thought it was really good as was the other two and it had really good visual effects and CGI etc, but i don't think it would've been anywhere near as good if Johnny Depp wasn't it in, i love Johnny Depp. Bill Nighy was also great in it.

I really enjoyed it myself.
I was a lover of the first 2, and thought that the end outcome was a big twist concerning Will & Jack.

Even though he wasn't in it for long... I though that Keith Richards was good. More for the fact that you could sit there and point out that he was Keith Richards, which I thought was pretty cool.

One thing I didn't like was ....

**spoiler** norrington's death. with all the deaths in it i wasn't surprised he would die at some point but i felt it came too soon and given the amount of screen time he had in DMC, he deserved better **end spoiler**

My Post contains spoilers for more aless the whole film....so bewarned...

GET OUT OF THE THREAD....NOW...QUICK, SAVE YOURSELF BEFORE IT'S TO LATE...GO!

Razz

Well but then you might know that being in this forum and thread
Big Grin

Heres my review on the film....i know its long winded so bare with me, also, its only a quarter of it...

I seriously didnt know whether i was coming or going! I still don't! Confused

Plot:

There was so much double crossing going on that i got totally confused on who was double-crossing anymore...

I think at one point i thought 'sod it' im just gonna watch it and not think about it coz i couldnt keep up! lol

Also, Elizabeth...First she's like the governers daughter...then she goes to being Pirate. THEN, she goes to being a Pirate Lord and then straight after a King Pirate Lord - like dam...shes a busy woman lol

The plot of them getting married, with Captain Barbossa in the middle of the fight...that was hilarious! 'you may now kiss' *stab, fight, punch* 'You may now kiss' *fight, punch, kick' 'what the hell, kiss her already' - brilliant Big Grin

Jack Multiple Personality's - they just completly summed up everything about him Big Grin I loved the bit where he shot one of his multi personalitys and took the peanut...'it's my peanut' hahaha that was great! and when they stood on his shoulder trying to decide/argue on whether or not to try and take the Flying Dutchman. - Immortality has the upside Big Grin

Tia Dalma/Calypso - Bloody Hell!! Never saw that one coming! In the 2nd film, when they showed us the lockets that Davy Jones and Tia had...i knew there was a connection and that maybe...Tia Dalma was the one that Davy Jones fell in love with...but to be possessed by a goddess and locked in the human form which is who Davy Jones fell in love with, shocked me! Then turning into like 50ft! and then a load of crabs...seriously never saw that coming!

Any views about the plot? to be honest, im having difficulty remember most of it as there was so much to take in so if anyone has any views on the plot that i havnt mentioned, then it might jog my memory Big Grin

Characters

I'm not going to talk into a lot of depth about all of them as theres loads, just the ones that i felt made an impact to me in this movie.

Elizabeth Swann (played by Kiera Knightley) - I'm not a huge fan of her but in the 1st film, i liked her character and felt she played a big part towards the movie. In the 2nd one. My opinion of her was not so high. I felt disappointed with her and felt that she ruined it in a couple of bits, where she had that thing with Jack - i dont mean at the end, i mean there little bit of flirting through out. In a couple of places, i thought she was a bit childish and her acting the part wasnt that good - especially the bit where Norrington, Sparrow and Turner were fighting and she was having that little strop. BUT, she has redeemed herself in the 3rd one. I thought her acting was a lot better and i actually enjoyed watching her and didnt feel the need to cringe at any 'spoilt brat' moments. When she did the more serious part like the 'Governer Swann' bit, i thought she pulled that off really well.

Murtogg and Mullroy - bloody class! I was thoroughly glad to see them back in this 3rd film! I would have liked to see more of them, but what we did see, was great. Especially at the end where they swapped there uniform to Pirate gear and mingled with the crew on the Black Pearl haha! Big Grin and the bit where they was gaurding the chest and Sparrow came in...i instantly thought staright back to the 1st film to where they was gaurding the ship and Sparrow appeared - i was glad to see that they referred it all back to the 1st film. 'fishmen'...'Fishmen!? What is that. No, that's not what they are called' then he carrys on argueing while Sparrow steals the chest - lmao, thats class, just like the first film!

Luiteint (sp?) Groves - He was in the 1st film as Officer Groves and he didn't actually have a big part.....only one scene in which he proudly spoke the words to Commodore Norrington 'That's got to be the best Pirate i have ever seen' (about Sparrow) - i knew he was going to be in the 3rd one and i was quite happy because even tho he had a small part in the 1st one...i liked him. Didnt see much of him, but what we did see, i liked and glad he was in the 3rd one with Murtogg & Mullroy. Tho, i think it would have been good to have quite a bit of interaction with Murtogg, Mullroy, Norrington and Groves - but there was alot to the film so i dont think they could quite fit it in.

Admiral Norrington - Im not going to start talking about his character here as i have actually quite abit to say about everything on him so im going to save him and do it in a bit.

That's it on the characters for the moment...i probably have more but il keep it small (hehe
) for now Razz

Deaths (Main characters)

Captain Sao Feng - I wasn't surpised that he died but i was surprised how early he was killed off. With the great hype of him being in it and him being in the promotional products, i thought he would have lasted right to the end.

Mercer (Lord Beckett's right hand man) - I cheered when he died! How mean eh hehe. and the way he died...being squidded by Davy Jones - so cool hehe...i did not like his character at all and glad he copped it! Big Grin

Lord Beckett - Again...i cheered when he copped it Big Grin Thought that he actually deserved it. He's the same as Mercer really. I didnt like his character much and glad he died in the film.

Governer Swann - dont know what to say except...oh my god. I didnt think they kill him off and i was quite shocked at it. I was slightlty disappointed that he didnt play much part in the film, only a little and got more a less killed off straightaway.

Will Turner - OMG!! I think my heart actually stopped for a second when he Davy Jones stabbed him! In a way i saw it coming when Barbossa married Elizabeth and Will and i kept thinking 'hes gonna die soon, at some point he's going to cop it' lol. But i was shocked when it happened and i think if i didnt have my mates and that with me, i probaby would have cried hehe. - i was rather surprised at the whole plot with him becoming the Captian of the Flying Dutchman in the end as well. I thought Jack would have. Like i say, i was shocked but glad that he came back - even if it is to be captain of the Flying Dutchman. AND didnt he look mighty fine at the end with his bandana Big Grin

Admiral Norrington - Again, like i say above...i will talk about him in a bit, im not going to do it right now as im quite tired and got a bit of a headache, but i will do it, i need to express my views on that lol.

Davy Jones - So Squid face died....we knew he would didnt we - wasnt a shocker Big Grin

Thats the main jist of the deaths.

Anyhoo...im gonna shut up now coz ive gone on for quite a bit hehehe - sowwy Big Grin

Overall, apart from the Norrington thing, i absolotly loved it and still gonna be a huuuuuge fan! Big Grin Now all i have to do is wait for the DVD!!

One thing....who stayed right to the very end? I mean, the bit after the credits went up....anyone catch like the 1 minute clip?

Big Grin

Norrington

Right, my rant about Norrington's part in the film.

I feel extremely dissappointed about Norrington dying and how early he died. And how he had like a total of 5 minutes in the film (maybe not even that!)

Theres a lot that pee's me off about it.

I've never hid the fact that Norrington has been my favourite character right from the very start and i feel that he has been a great significant to all of the movies and played a very big part, especially in the second one.

Norrington has done alot and for all of you who are fans i dont think i need to go through the 1st and 2nd film explaining what he has done. So i will go straight to the 3rd one. Norrington was BARELY in it, they killed him off early and after everything he had done previously they just killed him off...without (what i felt) no big scene. What pee's me off aswell the fact they gave Lord Beckett a more dignified, dramatic death - and he was an evil so-so who was only out for himself and destroy the pirate tradition and to get Davy Jones heart (which he got from the help of Norrington). Also, Beckett wasn't even in the first one! Fair enough, he's come in, in the 2nd one and been a big part of the plot but he had nothing to do with the first one where Norrington played a big part in it.

What kinda gets me aswell...is that the 2nd one, Will Turner promised his dad - Bootstrap Bill, that he would free him from the service of Davy Jones Locker and save him right, so all up to now, i kept saying, i hope Will saves his dad, i hope they get re-united etc...and then all because Bootstrap Bill had become part of the ships decoration and 'lost his memory' and Elizabeth was in jail which....Norrington helped free her and the crew from, Bootstrap took the opportunity to escape. Then he goes and kills Norrington! all because he had 'memory loss'

It just really annoys me with the way they killed him and how early they killed him. Also, like i said before, after everything hes done and how big of a part he has been in the movies, he's never been in any of the promotional stuff like the posters or anything! but the likes of Sao Feng is..he died before Norrington! Ok yea his character had an agenda which makes him top list of promotional products but without Norrington in the 2nd one, then the heart might not have got to Beckett. do you see what i mean?

There were rumours that he dies and i was willing to take it with a dignified response but i thought he would play a big part in this one like the 1st and 2nd one, be quite the character all the way through and then perhaps die a hero near the end. Like have a really good death - one that he truly deserves...but no, after everything hes done in the 1st and 2nd one...he was just like some loose end they needed to get rid of quickly...Frown

Crying

I was slightly disapointed
i got confused with some parts of it.

i cant help but think if it was rushed as it was filmed together with the 2nd story, and that if they had done a 3rd one after the 2nd (not together), it mite b slightly better.

Im not sure if that made sense haha but oh well.

I thought that it wasn't as good as the first one, which was excellent, but it was so much better than the second one which i found extremely dull. it required a lot more concentration than the other two as the plot was so complicated, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I liked the way that it went round in a circle and ended at the beginning. overall i think that they made a good effort to end on a good note, with a satisfactory story line.

I thought it was ok, just ok, not a patch on the first two, and that's saying a lot because I didn't think the second one was all that good. They'd have done better to go down the India Jones route and make three completely separate movies. I also think they made a mistake in trying to make Orlando and the Pout the main characters when it should have been pretty obvious that there was only one main character and that was Cap'n Jack!

For me this was the worst of the Trilogy. Lost most of the spark that made the first two such entertaining films. What a waste.

Unfortunately I haven't seen this yet but I LOVED the first one, think the second one didn't make a whole lot a sense but was very funny in places. I've heard a lot of people say they didn't like second and third one which is a shame cos the first one was great!
