I am studying A2 Media and am presently taking part in a Critical Research Study into Women in Film.

I am investigating why female directors are such a minority within the industry.

I am primarily looking at the works of Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion and Sally Potter.

I am extremely interested in others views as to why women are so poorly presented as directors in mainstream film.

I only know one film by a female director, so clearly they arent a part of mainstream film culture yet. The reason for this isn't clear, but i think its to do with authority and the cliche of women struggling in management. Which is why i also think that in the future there will be many more female directors as they become more established and people let go of 20th century views.
