Why...Why... and once again....why. Hollywood seems to be completely lacking in ideas. You wanna get people into cinemas...come up with something new. I can't wait for War of the worlds but still I feel like it's something that does have to be made.
Michael Bay is now remaking The Birds!! oh. My. Good. God. I am back on the ledge! He's going take a visionary apocalyptic poem that fuctions on many levels of understanding and he's going to turn it into brainless made easy crap that will function on one level. And then! for the poster for his next film it will say "From the man who brought you The Birds... blah blah" he is truly despicable. if you love films you must boycott this man's productions.
Why oh why can they not leave it alone! This is my favourite Hitchcock movie. It a classic. IT SHOULD NOT BE TOUCHED! Why can't they just get new ideas?! Why.
Kieser I may join you on your ledge.

thanks pet. everything seems better after a nice cuppa tea. But I don't care how much money Bay's company throws at it, whether he has the birds destroy New York or whatever, he is never going to construct a scene as perfect as the bird attack on the school and the 10 min dialogue free attack on the cottage. They were planned by a genius. You cannot out think Hitchcock. No one ever has or ever will produce a superior remake of his films. More expensive looking and easier to understand, possibly.
I've just thought .... would they get rid of the scenes where the birds and pecked out people's eyes? They cannot. It still freaks me out a little to this day. And after I first watched it I was afraid of Birds .... still am a little wary.
Oh how can they make a remake of this?!

i imagine there'll be lots of eye pecking, just not too much else. no ambiguity. No powerful female angst which is the whole point of Hitchcock's film, or one of them anyway. It is not called The Birds by accident. Hitchcock was a cockney after all. But worst of all, No Tippi Hedren! They'll just replace her with feckin Sarah Michelle Geller or someone
I think Hitchcock will be laughing at you all if he knew what you were posting. He had a sence of humor you know, and I don't think he was nearly as 'arty' and self obsessed as film analysts would have him.
He might even be flattered at the idea. I'm sure he was amused by the remake of Psycho, and probably pleased it turned out the be rubbish. His memory lives on, his films inspire new filmmakers.
A new version of the Birds? Might be good. As a fan of the big H, I will not feel unfaithful if I see it or even enjoy it. I think I'm even looking foreward to hearing more as it develops.
I know the news sucks but give it a chance, hell I know there is a good chance it could suck but I'm holding out you never know what will happen with it. Again, with the release of this many people may want to check out the original.
I honestly doubt they will mess with it to an extent that it doesn't resemble the original in the slightest.
You want to know something mad? I've sort of expected this to happen. I really don't know how there going to make crows and gulls scary enough for today's audiences. Seeing a bird hasn't been scary since the omen

yeah, and you can hear some pretty good Beatles music in a lift. But you're quite right Hitchcock would find it hilarious if he were alive today. In fact I like to think he would remake Con Air and turn it into a nailbiting thriller that Michael Bay couldn't begin to imagine

You will enjoy Donald Spoto's biography of Hitchcock. The Dark Side of Genius. You're right he was playful in his films and wasn't 'arty' but he was a great and innovative artist who didn't do anything by accident. He was pretty self obssessed it seems but Rear Window and particularly Vertigo are deeply personal films that are works of art, as I understand the term to mean. It's a fascinating book
At least they can't touch the original, it will be preserved and cherished by those that love it, no matter if they re-make it for dumb teenagers. But it angers me that people are making money (or at least, trying to) *******ising a genius's art-form. I hope it flops.
