I was in a small independent chemists the other day and I spied a bottle of tabu! I just had to buy it just so I could have a whiff and take me back to when I was 15 again! Me and my mates used to wear it after we got fed up with brut which was all the rage at the time..in those days I did not think about brut being an aftersahve..now I would not DREAM of wearing after save (unless it was joop)! I keep smelling the tabu and it really does bring back memories of, climbing in toilet windows to get in local discos for nothing...fancying the local skinhead and slapping tabu on so he would notice me...aww..those were the days! Big Grin

What perfume/aftershave brings it all back for you? Wave

The Brut made me laugh, I remember it well! Two ladies fragrances I used to use are no longer on the market, or at least I don't think they are... Aqua Manda, came in a brown glass bottle with oranges and orange blossom on it and Stowaway, Sleepy Lagoon, bit like impulse now but more expensive. My mother used to use, Coty L'aimant and grandmother 4711 eau de cologne. My first real perfumes were like you, Estee Lauder Youth Dew, and yes it smells like pee on me too! and White Linen though for some strange reason my mother thought I liked Chanel No 5 and insisted on buying it when she went away. I loved trying perfumes on the way home from school at our local House of Fraser store but had no particular alliegence to any one. I wore a lovely essential oil one from our local "Hippy" shop as my mother used to call it, the shop is still in existence today, owned by the same family, it labelled itself as unisex and I delighted at my mother's discomfort every time I said the word! The oil smelled like the taste of floral gums, mmm light and fragrant. Wink

Yes I remember 4711, Youth Dew and Aquamanda and what about Kiku which came in a yellow container and xanadu which came in a purple container. The female equivalent of Brut was Gingham. Does anybody remember Jolie Madam, Sandalwood and Evening in Paris in its little dark blue bottle. What about those bottles of perfume which came in a plastic dome with a black velvety cat holding it - think it was called sophisti-cat Hypnotique perfume by Max Factor - that for me was the height of chic

Wow Aloo, I remember all of those. The cats had different coloured feather things in and I do believe they had diamontes for eyes. Gosh but that brought back some memories. Patchouli oil and Californian Poppy were two others that came to mind. I have to say I loved Gingham. My dad used to use Old Spice so Brut was a welcome change that and Hi Karate! Now I like DKNY for women and Issy Miake for men.

My mum used to wear Apple Blossom - it was disgusting and always made me feel travel sick in the car.

The height of chic for me was when I was in my 20s and Georgio Beverley Hills came out - but you could only get it in Harvey Nics. Just the whole process of having to get a train to London and then the underground.....it was sooo sophisticated and posh Big Grin

Charlie was a favourite when I was at school.

School friends and I used to buy each other Avon for Christmas. My favourite was Occur.

Mind you, I'm still and Anais Anais kind of girl - so what do I know? Laugh
