I don't beleive it for one second that gangs say they so called nothng to do. where I live the library is vandlaised the soap dispenser smashed grafatti on walls, the youth club sign smashed, in the town next to mine the library has broken mice and keyboards kids are told to leave frequently, if this how they behave then it's there fault and plus it's costing normal people money to repair these things!
I think that a lot of youths problems today are caused by lack of responsibility, we (I think) don't expect our children to be responsible for their own behaviour from an early enough age.......
A person of 14 should know right from wrong........at 14 we all make mistakes but when I was that age I had to take responsibility for my mistakes and the punishment if neccessary...today we make excuses for bad behaviour...ie..single parenting, council estates, lack of employment etc...........even boredom.....
when I was a teenager I used to hang about with my mates in shop doorways...nothings changed much for todays teenagers, the only difference is that there is more media coverage on it and internet access, where as in my day there was no internet as such and the media were not so interested as they are today..I come from a rough council estate, as do my 5 sisters and 2 brothers. We have all done good for ourselves in our own ways and not one of us have had any criminal dealings with the police. I believe this is because we were taught right from wrong from a young age and the pattern has followed onto my nieces and nephews, fed up with do gooders saying its coz of single parents, inner city estates, no job...load of tosh!

if kids are taught by example and learn respect from an early age they dont go round wrecking other peoples property. Im not saying the dont get into a bit of trivial mishchief but in the whole they act responsibly if their parents bring them up that way

I think there should be a better facilities, like youth clubs, so that kids have more to do and aren't tempted into crime. The police need more power too. How will kids ever learn to behave if the only punishment is a slap on the wrist?

I really think that society has changed so much over the years, police, social workers, even teachers, are scared to put a foot wrong in case they get reported for it and then it gets blown out of all poportion and the next thing you know, its all in the papers!

the facilities are so much better than they were when I was a teeny bopper. the only places I could go was the swimming pool, ice rink or school youth club and thats only if my pocket money would stretch that far and frequently it didnt. in the town where i lived there is so much more for younguns to do these days and so many more organisations laying stuff on. I do agree tho that poeple like the police, teachers etc dont have the respect or power they used to have cos society has their 'hands tied'

every generation comes along and says 'theres nothing for young people to do' and every generation gets bigger and better facilities/amenities than the ones before them. YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG.
What you need to think about is where todays generation has come from.
Then calculate where THEIR parents comes from.
Then you`ll see that the grandparents of todays youth hail from the 60s where dogooders started preaching about NOT smacking children, and how children don`t need boundarys which stifle their lives.
If you go back a further generation, you`ve got rationing, and the second world war. And people`s reactions to that..... A LOT of inner city kids being herded out to the country, and themselves not learning how to behave as parents.
This then led to a generation of kids growing up without being taught properly how to bring up kids themselves.
It`s a knock on effect with the problems getting worse and worse with each successive generation.

Perhaps the actual problem is that there are too many young people and not enough corners!!
So more and more young people are having to double up on the corners. It`s not so much the "hanging around on corners" that worry other people, it`s the fact that the groups are now far larger than they were a generation ago(ie 10 million people difference).

Here speaks an innocent abroad!!!
If people didn`t misbehave, then the belt and cane would not have been needed.
The very fact that they WERE being used proved that there were naughty children even then!
Can`t even say that the cane or the belt was really a good deterrant, because it`s not just the uncaned youth who clog up the jails.

there have always been naughty children and always will be...the difference these days is the teacher is too scared to discipline coz the kid will shout "assualt assualt...compensation!"
