I can understand why people give homeless people money but instead of this I think it's better to give an orginisation which helps homeless people money instead perhaps somewhere that gives clothes, bedding, footwear or food for example, as homeless could spend the money on drink or drugs which could cause/help cause an overdose liver problems.
I can see what your saying LIL but I go to a lot of Charity Do's and the amount they spend on food, drinks, speakers etc is disgusting! Not all of them I may add, but I would rather give a homeless person £1 to go and get a cup of tea, not all of them are drinkers waiting to die. At least I know then that they are spending the money themselves

If someone is really homeless, and a lot of them really are not, then I would go and buy them something to eat and a drink.
yeah, but maybe just be careful, just in case someone gets violent or tries to mug you, I'm not sterotyping as anyone could get violent or mug someone homeless or not

I agree that "not all of them are drinkers waiting to die"
mmmmmmm..this is quite a hard one for me, having been homeless myself many years ago, that is why I have passion for them I suppose. KW, imagine buying them a coffee and them throwing it back! that happened to a friend of mine. LIL you are so caring sometimes in your own blokeish way

Do you think they might throw a coffee back at you? I never thought of that. If they were genuine I would have thought they would have been glad of coffee and a sandwich.

I do know that there are a lot of homeless people but there are a number who sit in the city centres and beg. Apparently, they make quite a lot of money each day and then, at the end of it, get into their cars and drive home.
How do we know who is homeless and who isn't these days?

I agree. If they spend it on alcohol, then that's their decision. In fact in Manchester about four years ago an inebriated homeless guy showed me his handful of coins and flat out asked for 48p so he could get himself a bottle of Cider! At least he was honest so I gave him a pound.

There is a man who sleeps rough who I pass on my way to work....he is still under a pile of clothes when I go past him. I buy him a coffee every morning and leave it by him. I have no idea what he looks like - I've never seen his face.

Awe Rexi that is also lovely ,whoever the person is under the clothes will appreciate your drink in the morning
I used to give money to a homeless man in Bristol until my boss said to have a look at his hair. Sure enough, he had a really good haircut. Think that was what my pound went towards. My boss said she'd seen him get collected by car each evening.

It's often crossed my mind that there is no-one there, just a pile of old blankets!!
Or maybe, whoever it is doesn't take sugar (I always put two in) and they throw it away each day
