ive done a quick search to see if theres a thread about these guys and couldnt find one so apologies if there is one.

i saw el presidente at the trent student union a fortnight ago and loved them. they have a slight scissor sisters vibe about them in that they managed to get the crowd (is an audience of 30 classed as a crowd?) dancing and clapping along through out their entire set (which is an achievement especially with the poor quality of the support act). i think theyre a scottish band and they have a quite ecletic look about them.

has anyone else seen them live or heard any of their songs? what do you think...are they going to do an arctic monkeys or just fade away into nothingness?

Are they the Scottish lot?

I saw them do a spot of guerilla gigging in Glasgow, on some C4 music show. Seemed ok.

Hi Smile I think there was a thread, a month or two back, where someone asked who the band busking in the street on some C4 Music show were.

Quite entertaining live - I saw them supporting Black Rebel Motorcycle Club the other weekend. Energetic, sparkly and shiny, with big meaty glam riffs through much of their stuff.

The frontman has tons of energy and is very engaging live.
Visually, reminiscent of The Killers if they had a female drummer and female keyboard player LOL

They are what the Scissor Sisters would sound like if they took their cue from Bolan/T.Rex rather than Elton John! Big Grin
"Give Me A Sign" (on CD2 of the El Presidente single "100 MPH") is basically T.Rex's "Metal Guru"....**

I kinda like them for a electro-pop/glam band .... not quite as nice 'n' sleazy as San Diego's finest, Louis XIV ,though!

** T.Rex's "Metal Guru" must be one of the most regurgitated songs ever. I listen out for these things. Razz

Suffice it to listen to:
"Metal Guru" - T.Rex
"Panic" - The Smiths
"Letter to Dominique" - Louis XIV
"Give Me A Sign" by El Presidente

Take a listen - basically all the same tune!

i think there was a really recent pop-type song that reminded me a lot of T-Rex i think it was either goldfrapp or rachel stevens. even my dad picked up on it as an old t-rex fan! but if youre going to copy a band might as well make it a damn good one like t-rex Big Grin

Yeah, Goldfrapp was T.Rex (the entire "Hot Love"-style la la la la and the video more than anything); Rachel Stevens was Adam & the Ants!

I actually have a mashup of the latter:
"Ant Said Never Again (Backdoor Remix)" - Rachel vs Adam Big Grin

Morrissey cheekily used the red/navy T.Rex style graphics for the record label of his "Certain People I Know". (Very "Ride A White Swan"...)

I have "Abba and the Bunnymen" too!

Voulez Vous / Killing Moon Razz

(Not that the latter was a rip-off of the former in any way - just a very funny mash-up...!)

Just new on here however an old timer on the El Pres community board on their site.
I've been following the band for a few years now and they're absolutely amazing!! Dawn, Laura, Thomas and Johnny are brilliant however the star of the show is the lead singer Dante Gizzi.
He was in GUN many moons ago so if you've been wondering where you've seen the face before that could be it.
Anyone wants to see them in December then they're playing their homecoming gig at the Glasgow Barrowlands on the 17th of December.

They're amazing live. Well worth going to see however they've been touring for a while now so in need of a rest. Probably won't be around for a bit. I know they're off to Japan soon.
