remember pro1ix's mates Mumm-ra? who sold out, became Klaxons clones to get signed to Columbia? well, they've only managed one album before breaking up.
pretty obvious that Columbia dropped them- that's the danger of becoming a clone band to attract record labels- they'll tire of you VERY quickly if they can't shift loads of your albums.
Wow. I didn't even know until I read this. It's sad really, they're a talented group but I can't defend against the claim they followed the trends of the day. They did. I was surprised the album didn't sell more because for what it was - it was very good. I'd take them over the Kooks, Klaxons, View... repeat ad infinitum.
I hope they'll go back to making music they started out making, bring back the sitar and the zither and sod the business.

therein lies the problem- record labels unwilling to take a chance on a band that sounds different (eg. Mumm-ra in their original incarnation)- preferring instead to sign clone bands (eg. Mumm-ra in their eventual Klaxons-alike form)
-however there's a limit on the sales of a clone band.
maybe if Columbia dared to let Mumm-ra be more individual, distinctive, they could have got more success out of them in the long run.
similarly, current conveyor-belt indie bands the Pigeon Detectives and the Young knives can't have much longevity in them.
They weren't ditched by their label - they had the option on it picked up by Columbia. They just split. That's as much as I know. Just thought it was a little unfair people going on about them being dropped.
