Best powerful rock voice for me is Ian Gillan and David Coverdale

For most unique and distinctive rock voice is Bon Scott and Ozzy

The most distinctive and enigmatic voice ever must belong to Nina Simone.
The greatest female voice's ever has to be Eva Cassidy, Janis Joplin & Sinead O'Connor.
As for male voices Mike Patton has to be the most genius, Freddie Mercury the most unforgetable, Elvis the smoothest & Bon Scott possibly the greatest??

I'de like to say Jacko, Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston but they're all a bit nuts and that puts me off crowning them the best! For that reason i'm going to say Boys 2 Men- Classic!

I would agree if you mean the 60's (and early 70's) Paul Rogers...not so sure if the years of gigging have improved his voice though...which leads me to Chris Cornell, who's voice is actually not a million miles from PR's...

Yes I do. He was in a band called The Teesside Roadrunners when I first saw him. Alas! I am very old!

Sorry, can't remember her name but the singer from 1990s indie band the Sundays has a fantastic voice. Nod And Alison Goldfrapp too. Smile

Sorry, I didn't know this was the 'greatest singer of all time that Nick B has heard of'! That's why I suggested Google though, I'm sure you could find a track to preview and see for yourself.

It's not the greatest singer off all time that Nick B has heard of. It's just makes me laugh that of all the singers there's ever been you have to pick someone that hardly anyone's heard of. I'm sure if this Mark geezer was the lead singer of a band that had had loads of hits you probably wouldn't have picked him.

I answered the question honestly. I mean I could have said Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding or Curtis Mayfield, sure. I like all of the above, but I feel that Kozelek is for me a greater singer. It's a stupid question anyway.
