Are you and I looking at the same music scene? I'm sorry, but the Kaiser Chiefs, Green Day, the Pussycat Dolls, the Arctic Monkeys... that's pretty damn awful!

Lol! I can't choose! Cos when I go to parties and stuff, it's always 60's/70's music playing, and I love them, but I also like new music and I loved music in the 90's.

1970's for me I think
All these music genres were either going strong or being created in the 70's:
Funk, soul, disco, glam-rock, folk, electronic, punk, new-wave, prog, art-rock, heavy metal, reggae, experimental, rap....
Unfortunately the generalisation of the 70's seems to be Slade, Bay City Rollers, The Osmonds, Abba, Pan's People, Boney M and Brotherhood of Man. And don't get me started on that awful Leo Sayer...

As far as I'm concerned it's the 70s. It had The Jam and The Clash at the height of their greatness so that does it for me. Apart from Joy Division and U2 the 80s was mostly crap, the same for the 90s, Oasis, Blur and again U2 being the better ones. And for this decade, there is some utter sh*te out there, thanks to such things as pop idol, but there are some great indie bands too; The Strokes, Interpol, Editors and the Arctic Monkeys.

60's all the way, Beatles, Stones, Jimi, Doors, Love, Jefferson Airplane, Wilson Pickett, The Velvet Underground, The Who, the list goes on and on, you get the picture. The Worst has to be the f'n 80's, absolutely nothin apart from two or three indie bands and rave.

Well said Wobbletastic, i couldn't agree more. Every decade has got good music and shit music but it's got to be said that the 90s and Now has produced far more crap than the 60s 70s and 80s for the exact reasons that Wobbletastic has pointed out. It seems that nowadays its all about wanting to be famous rather than wanting to be a musician and make good records with the fame coming second. People who say the 80s produced the worst music make me laugh when they say things like it was cheesy or the music had no substance. You might as well say that the 70s produced the worst music because it had The Wurzels, The Village People, Showaddywaddy and Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep. If they actually took the time to look past all the so called 'cheesy music' they'd find a lot of good music like The Smiths, U2, The Specials, The Cure, The Beat, Associates, Simple Minds, The Cult, Peter Gabriel, Killing Joke and lots more. IMO the best 10 year period for music was probably about 1975-'85.

Now. Not because of the sh!t that the rest of you are talking about but because two of my favourite bands are from approximately the last three years.

Nothing on the music scene now is original and it is all crap, I mean common the crazy frog is this how low producers sink to make a fast buck. Anyone who votes now has no taste in music at all and needs some education, even the flat 80's had more class than todays modern tripe!
Bring back the seventies when music was about Sex, Drums and Rock&Roll and the songs and lryics actually had meaning Also I can name a whole host of bands from the 70's do any of todays modern "artists", and I use that word sarcasticly, think they will be remembered in 5 years time let alone 40
Well here are my faveourite bands of that era
Meatloaf Guns&Roses Queen Metallica Led Zepplin The Eagles The Jam Motorhead
Need I go on

Need I go on Caution RANT!!!!!A superb post summing up so much of the facts. As today's artists are quoting these 70s bands as their influence they are only trying to emulate them. Unless they too are willing to put in years on the circuit instead of using insta-fame of sad Channel 4s TV celebrity shows then all we will be offered is Ordinary Boys, Goldie Looking Chain and Kandy Floss with a K! Has anyone actually heard the racket from wonder group The Arctic Monkeys? The real monkeys are these con men trying to sell us this garbage!

I've voted for the seventies. Just wondering though if for most of us we are voting for the decade when we were teenagers? As this seems to be the time we are most influenced by current music? I voted for the seventies due to Bowie, The Faces, T-Rex, Dr Feelgood, Pink Floyd, The Jam, Dylan, The Who, Chic, Bob Marley, Ian Dury, etc but it was also the time when I became a teenager and bought quite a bit of vinyl.

I am a teenager in this 'now' period. It's definately not been an era where I've felt at all influenced by bands that are circulating at the moment--because there isn't anything original or 'groundbreaking' (to use NME's favourite word) going on. There have been pros and cons to each decade listed--an example, the 90's bought the Grunge movement to the surface, but it also gave us the Spice Girls. However, with the naughties, I'm yet to find anything but cons, and I'm yet to find artists that will be remembered in decades to come--no matter what the magazines say.

Oh do you speak for him, this being the case what is wrong with our posts. You cannot say with any good sense that there is anything on the current music scene that is either good or original or both. Music should be about inspiration as it was in days of yore however these days as with anything else it is about money and fame. How many modern day artists do you know who would do a 3 hour live performance every night for 4 weeks just to promote an album that you have been told probably won't make it anyway. The album in question Is Bat Out Of Hell of course. No proIix the moderm music scene is a soul-less uninspired machine driven by the dollar and quite frankly it is sad. And if you must question my tastes in musi then first get your self an education in the subject as no one with two brain cells can defend the modern tripe!
