Any guesses as to the opening lines in the programme ?

"Welcome to Stilton, probably best known for it's distinctive Cheese"....Then references to Ermine Street etc.

Programme finishes with everyone holding a drink and a piece of cheese Smile

Absolutely fascinating edition.
Just got better and better as the 3 days passed.
Would this rare find of a possible 'hermitage' have any links the the "Redstone Caves" here in Stourport-on-Severn. See my thread "A "Hermitage"

This was Time Team at its best, keeping us guessing with the various possible periods and 'is it what the geofizz says?'.

After last week when their enthusiasm looked a little forced, it was great to see them getting so excited. At times it seemed hard to take in everything that they were finding.

Yes, I enjoyed this one. Very pacey, plenty going on, different opinions on different interpretations and, for me, the archaeological term of the series - " occupation with knobs on "!

Best so far in my humble opinion.
Every passing minute turned up something new.
To think, by the end of the programme they were finding evidnce of what could be Prehistoric times.

Excellent!

There must have been enough off camera discussion on strategy to fill an extra half hour slot alone. I guess there was a cheese making cameo that failed to make the programme as well.

Judging by what was televised, I'm sure there would have been at least another hours worth of footage they could have shown.

Would quite happily have missed the lovely, playful little Meerkats for that Smile

All very enthusiastic (and some real archaeology too), but something just left me cold...think there was too much and too little time. If there was an hour on the Roman, an hour on the Saxon and an hour on the prehistoric, trouble was everything (and everyone) was spread too thin and trying to be too enthusiastic - wow, could this be a hermitage? (well it's a wall) - wow could this be a causewayed enclosure? (well it's a ditch) - wow could this be a port? (well it's alluvium). Too much speculation and too little fact - a case of too many finds and no real focus? Would have loved to have seen a programme on just the Saxon stuff - what was that cemetery and how did it fit with the kiln/apse/basin/building/thing?????

excuse me for butting in, I live in the house nearest to the dig and it was fascinating to go down to and visit. It seems to me such a shame to discover so much and then cover it all back up after three days. As stated in an earlier message, it would have been nice to spend more time on each period. The team told me that there were doubtless more kilns etc all over the field.

Anyway, that's just my opinion Red Face)
