Sorry if this has already been discussed....but does anyone know anything about this proposed Time Team America programme? Apparently its a US version of TT - with American archaeologists and sites.
You heard correctly. The American PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) has bought the format and is to make a short series of digs in the US with American archaeologists.
It's rumoured these progammes will be shown in the UK with an introduction and closing piece from Tony R.
I think that you can rest assured that Time Team America will be just as inclusive of all time periods as the original. Those of us on this side of the puddle have been waiting for some time for a similar program. Oregon PBS is sparing no expense to do this right.
In the US archaeology is defined as extending from earliest antiquity to 50 years ago. This is in keeping with the federal and state laws covering the Historic Preservation Act, Environmental Protection Act and a whole host of others. Not to mention the proclivities of individual researchers whose activities are quite encyclopedic. Time Team America is having no difficulties in identifying the best for their three day forays.
Welcome to the forum Archaico1. I have been watching out for news of the US version of TT ever since I heard the first whisper of it, years ago.
The archaeology is so different from that in the UK - going straight from pre-historic to colonial. So TT America is bound to have its own character. I'd love to get the chance to see how the format translates.
