Offa's Dyke: A Journey In Words And Pictures (Gomer, £19.99), is one of the few books on the earth-bank since Sir Cyril Fox's classic 1955 Offa's Dyke monograph. Published on November 1, it's atie-in for a forthcoming BBC Wales five-part series on the dyke due for screening next spring.
I was walking Offa's Dyke two weeks ago, nice walks in lovely surroundings.
"there is a feeling that Offa's Dyke continues to linger in the funding shadow of other ancient British structures such as Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge"
Any comments about the upkeep of this monument? Should it get Lottery Funding? Government help etc??
Back in August we stayed in a village called Offchurch in Warwickshire. Rather a nice old church there with a stone coffin that is reputed to be the one where Offa was buried - hence the name having been Offa's church originally , or so I was lead to believe. Anybody with any info about this, ot know where I'm talking about?
