Hi I watched the time team on jamestown usa and was intreagued by the website helen was looking at records of people who had moved there does anyone know what the site was?

It's the LDS website. It's free to access and very informative, but a lot of the information has been transcribed or added by volunteers and is open to error like all such sites. The part Helen was looking at is the International Genealogical Index and it's invaluable to those researching family history.

It's called FamilySearch. There are LDS centres throughout the country who can obtain copies of the original fiches for you to see to check any details.

My big worry watching that is that they seemed to be putting a lot of faith in it. However the IGI only has a proportion of the parish registers covered, and even within those there are an awful lot in inaccuracies. Fantastic when you find an obvious link, but it was a bit iffy when they were talking about various people being the only possible matches. They were missing all the entries that haven't been transcribed.
