I'd like to thank Channel 4 for hosting this site for so long, I've enjoyed every minute of it, and met some truly unforgettable people through the TTFF. I don't want it to close, and I hope it doesn't, but all good things eventually come to an end....
I'd like to echo
everything Lyn has said.
This was the first forum I visited when I first went online in September 1999 - it was also virtually the first website I visited, and I was hooked from the start - it was the weekend of the Time Team 'Live' from York.
Things have changed a lot - especially the forum format itself, and lots of people have come and gone. I've made friends, as I know many others have, too.
We've had our share of squabbles and disagreements, threads on every subject under the sun - some that informed, entertained and others that infuriated - but overall the forum has contributed to a lot of good people coming together to enjoy their common interest. Chat rooms were set up, local groups of enthusiasts met together and continue to do so - friendships were formed which will remain.
It changed the future of some in a big way - there was even (at least one) wedding, and other partnerships were formed - some were even encouraged to study archaeology part-time, or even begin degree courses - and a few are now practising archaeologists.
Others continued as amateur archaeologists, historians or metal detectorists, while others wrote about it and created illustrations, or even websites on the subject - not to mention spoof videos...
All of that can't be bad. So thanks, Channel 4.
