Here is a link to the photos of a ball I found. http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/4026839 I've been told its a loom weight, but I don't know if this is true or how old it is.
Is there a better place on line to get things identified as I don't really want to have to go all the way to my local museum.
Thanks, theres some similar items when searching for "ball" or "weight". I think it is either a loom weight or a musket ball(although its made of stone not lead). I think I probably will drop it in my local museum and let them look into it.

It's way too large to be a musket ball as with the exception of large fowling guns (4 bore etc) all muskets are under about 1" bore. A loom weight or a fishing net weight or rope weight would be my guess.

Is it drilled all the way through, James? Can't tell from your photograph.
I've found loomweights and spindlewhorls in a variety of shapes sizes and materials, so its very likely it could be one, and based on its size and material, might well be prehistoric
