I have been researching these sites for the past year. Does anyone know whether they have previously been excavated? I cannot find any reports on earlier work.

Try www.biab.ac.uk Not a complete record but you may find a reference to a publication.
The archy I met in Italy (my wife says he was Stefan not Stephen) told me it was OK to ask here. The sites are listed in an archaeological journal so there existence is no secret - only there exact locasion.

Although would you like to mention the archy journals?
(I am bladdered on this one)
Theres a chapter in the Archeological Journal for 1986 titled Associated Monsetries and castles in the Middle Ages – a tentative list.
Btw Stefan Elias - the archy I met in Italy – is a top man. He was their to give a talk to the Brits School in Rome and was going to see Pompey. He told me that he takes partys of Time Team people to archy sites in south Wales

Nice one Rog. Luckily I'm Cardiff born and bred. I've only lived in Armpit De LaGwent a couple of years. Anyway I do remember the Mole wrench factory by the side of the Usk just before the tunnels going eastbound
"When you're in a hole, pick up a mole" was there advertising slogan. I went there on a day trip in the fifth year and we had badges with that on - innuendo or what?
Right - moles I have trouble with. I remember getting ratty with a mole once. So don't badger me and try and weasel out of ....... I'm sorry - I'll get my coat.
