Anybody in NE England (or passing through!) might be interested in this project, which involves the renovation of a beautiful 19th century Jacobean style house and grounds (the site of a medieval manor) and a ruined 13th century church containing an amazing collection of Viking hogbacks. The work is long-term and mostly carried out by volunteers. I visited a few weeks ago on a flickr photography meet, and we were all bowled over by a place which deserves a lot more publicity and support, paticularly as it's in a rather isolated spot on the banks of the River Tees, roughly south of Darlington For details of the site and its location, Google "Sockburn Hall Project".
