Believe it will be Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh as there was an article in a local paper stating that historic Scotland had granted permission to dig to Time team
According to a small item in the new Radio Times (bottom of page 10) the Big Royal Dig will see the Team excavating the gardens of Holyrood, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace!
Following Tony Blair's example it'll be too good a chance for some Royal or the other not to exploit for a photo-op. Question is will Tony and Mick be able to swallow their republican pride long enough to avoid a one way trip to the Tower? or will it be OBE's all round??
The producers of this show never fail to amaze me. The 'show' pulls itself up and gives us back what we want, then wastes time and money on this nonsense

point me toward the 'worth' of this project ...on possibly one of the most monitored pieces of turf in the U.K. .
Was it Mick or Tony who said in one of the Time Team books that the point of the programme was telling todays ordinary people something about the lives of yesterdays ordinary people?
I shall be interested to see how the Big Royal Dig fits in with this noble aim!
Oh for heavens sake ... they're not going to be digging up members of the royal family!!! As far as Holyrood is concerned it was a monastery until the Reformation and they've dug plenty of monastic sites before! Buck House only became a Royal residence when it was bought by George III in the mid 18th century, and presumably there may be even humbler archaeology to find below its site. And as for Windsor Castle - the Team have searched for many a Mediaeval palace - and not always with a huge degree of sucess.
Yes, it's definitely on over the August bank holiday - and the Radio Times and Sunday Telegraph items mentioned above tell you everything that I'm allowed to say about it at the moment .... Can't wait to dig up the lawn at Buck Palace personally!

Are you sure they'll let you in?
I believe you used to have something to do with that pinko rag, New Statesman didn't you?

It may be well monitored, but only on ground level. What would be the chances of a local archaeological unit or an archaeological society being able to dig there?
Any development on Crown property is undertaken under archaeological supervision if it is expected that archaeological remains will be encountered. That work is subject to normal tendering procedures which means that archaeological units/contractors will undertake it.
Actually you miserable lot, there have been several excavations at the royal palaces in recent years. Even the queen needs new water pipes sometimes you know.

I've always wondered what job you do at CH4/Time Team?

The excavations on the Round Tower in the late 80's/early 90's and one's below the Medieval Kitchen as part of the restoration after the 92 Fire, to name but two.
I'm new here! How can I find out about the archaeology of these sites? I know that Headland Archaeology have worked at Holyrood, both MOLAS and English Heritage have done work at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace. Judging from that, can we tell what TT are going to be up to? Are they looking for the Grosvenor Canal, for example?
