I read with sadness, that the brave Jane Tomlinson has eventually died of cancer, Not only her family, but the peoples of the world can be thankful that such brave people exists amongst us, and whilst defying all odds and deferring dying, raising over a million pounds to carry on the fight.
Why don’t the Muslim terrorists take a leaf out of her book and fight disease and poverty as opposed to the destruction of mankind?
My prayers go out to her and her family.
My simple tribute to a very brave lady.

Ron.

My God! Who is this militant Jenni that has suddenly appeared? Burning her bra and throwing her knickers at the ducks! Big Grin Big Grin(You also wrote an interesting letter)

Nothing is ever simple or straight forward on Merseyside. Everything has a ‘history’ Therefore, with a ‘hate’ anti-EU feeling in 87% of the area, the ‘Post’ is the enemy, a point reflected on it’s falling circulation over the years. However, I found Private Eye’s view interesting

My former boss once described me as "slightly right of Atilla the Hun". Mind you, as he was a card-carrying member of the communist party, I didn't consider his starting point as being exactly moderate! Big Grin

Jane lived against the odds through her own qualities as much as through medical intervention. But sometimes the body is no longer able even whilst such a strong spirit is still willing. Would that we all had her strength and courage in the face of such adversity, as well as her unselfish dedication and optimism.

Yes, sorry Jenni I didn't quite put it the right way. You are quite right about responsibilities. We used to be taught in school from an early age that democracy also meant responsibility or a dictatorship arose because people wanted law and order (Iraq seems an example of how this is happening!)

I - countryborn and passionately rural also deplore bloodsports for the sake of killing a creature and especially digging out cubs.

In regard to Jane's death I cannot, simply cannot understand the sick minds that plagued her with claims that she was not ill. What is wrong with these people -they go into hystercal media driven grief over the death of Diana and yet fail to recognise the true heroism of a woman like Jane

Well, she's definitely proved them wrong now!

It's all down to attitude and coping ability, isn't it? After all (and here's where the men start bristling! Razz) we all know that some people take to their bed with a cold whilst the rest of us just get on with our lives. Some people cannot comprehend how those who have a serious illness can refuse to give into it. It's easier to minimise the impact of the illness or pretend it doesn't exist than to admire the person bearing it and admit that they couldn't do it themselves.

In relation to the letters from Ann and Jenni.
I have just spent half a day in the local General Hospital.
They informed me that my treatment has come too late. Though it is impossible to forcast, if the lung cancer continues to spread at the present rate,(I now have it in the chest bone) then I have about 8 weeks to go. However, should it slow down, then maybe more.Speaking personally, I shall continue my life as normal as possible, and will take inspirationh from Jane Tomlinson and fight, fight and bloody figyht.
What is upsetting me, is not the end of my own life, but the people that I love and can longer take care of. That really gets to me.

Ron.

Ron, let them love and take care of you its what they want, love is two way.

However, take heart from jane -she kept living- and really living, long after she was supposed to have said goodbye.

Words are such useless things aren't they?

If we were face to face Ron I would give you a hug Roll Eyes

Ron - don't forget the opinion of the French doctors who are just as qualified. We all need to ensure that whatever time is allotted to us is spent the best way possible.

Don't worry about those left behind. As Valerie says, you all need to try to ensure that the most recent and most lasting memories are the best they can be.

I'm not a follower of religious practices. But I do believe that what we have here is only followed by something better. And we will be reunited with those we loved best.

One thing that's always puzzled me though... what about people who have had multiple spouses/partners/lovers that they've loved? Who actually do they end up reunited with... Confused Big Grin

Ron, keep fighting, and live life to the fullness of your ability. None of us know what's in store for us, if we did, would we do things any differently?

Courage and dignity are wonderful, and you have those aplenty, but it's ok to be scared too...

Well jenny -I am a follower of religious practices and I wonder just the same thing!

However, when perplexed I remind myself of Isaiah - who was a pretty canny chap (all 3 of them) who said, 'my thoughts are not your thoughts, says the Lord, and my ways are not your ways'. To which I say 'thank you Lord that they are not!!'

I prefer to think on Julian who said that 'all manner of things shall be well' Roll Eyes

In that case, Ann, I hope God provides them with training as well - I spent 19 years unsuccessfully trying to educate a man (as have so many of our sisters! Roll Eyes) and I'm not looking forward to spending eternity coping with the same stressors... Big Grin Cool

How many men does it take to change a toilet roll?

It was possibly the link Ann, C4 don't like them although C4 News Forum will permit links to mainstream news sources. My link was to a Biblical entry on Wikipedia, Wiki is usually permitted and as you say there was nothing offensive about it or my post.

Taking a look though there is no reference to the use of links on this particular forum and the general Terms and Conditions at the bottom of the page don't mention it either.

Some years ago, I watched a new interesting programme entitled ‘Time Team’
This resulted in my discovering this site and it’s many contributor’s .
The first discussion that I had, was with a guy called ‘Steve Platt’ whom I had never heard off and our debate covered Metric versus Imperial measurements.(a debate just settled with the EU in favour of our retention)
Since first crossing swords with Steve Platt, I have discussed scores of issues with many unknown people. They had their views, I had mine, the in between always proving interesting.
I met a few of these people from the North West. Of the other hundreds, many have been faceless, but friends.
A perfect example has been all these wonderful people, unknown, but wishing me well. during the trying past weeks. You are what I am proud to be called friends.
Ridiculous as it sounds, I don’t know any of you, yet you are my friends.
What more could anyone ask for, in life or death? Nothing.
During the past week, because of extreme chest pain plus breathing difficulties, I have been unable to visit here. However, I am now on 24 hour oxygen plus liberal doses of Morphine. Through these avenues I have been able to combat pain and breathing problems.
Therefore, I intend forwarding news items when I can..

Wednesday, saw the arrival in the Mersey of the QE2. She was celebrating her 40th birthday to be combined with Liverpool’s new International 19 million pound ‘Landing Stage’ for the worlds largest Liners. They were opened by the ‘Duke Of Kent’ syled at night by a ‘Last Night Of The Proms’ syle concert aboard the QE2 hosted by ‘Lesley Garratt’(did I spell that right?)This was followed by a firework display.
The ship sailed on the next high tide/

Professor kieth Harding and his team of Archaeologists, have just electronically surveyed the car park of the ‘Railway Hotel’ in Moels, Wirral, and have confirmed the existence of what appears to be a 40ft Viking boat preserved in the clay.

'struth Ron, I dread to think what the parking ticket must be! Eek

Words cannot help your pain but if I could relieve it I would - I use the only way I know.

I remember the QE2 at her unveiling - my mother popped off to Southamptom with the W.I. to see her. My father having worked on the pre-war liners gave her a curiosity to see what post-war liners had achieved.

Sometimes, Ron, you can find support in the least likely of places.

Parking Fees!!! That’s a good one Ann, I bet they would try it if it could be justified.
It gave me a good laugh!.
It reminded me of a rather sad yet funny incident which occurred when I was in Hospital some weeks ago.
Despite opposition from both sexes, in the ‘Wirral’ we have mixes sex wards. No one likes them. The 6 bed side ward that I was in was all male-by chance.
When a vacancy suddenly occurred, an old lady with long white hair was admitted/
The reason was that she had a chest infection. Also, she was away with the mixer, as barmy as a Coot,
From the moment she entered the ward, around 3-00PM She shouted her head off and demanded the Nurse’s attention consistently. This was in a ward where some of the patients were seriously ill with Cancer.
We were informed that there was no beds available in either the Physiological or Geriatric wards she was then placed on three woman’s wards in two days, but they refused to accept her after a few hours. She was then placed on our ward because-I quote- Men are more considerate!. I was in the end bed, she was in the centre, next to me.
By eleven o’clock, with her shouting and screaming, I was worn out and knackered, so at 11``-15 lights out, I fell fast asleep regardless of the noise.
---I looked at my watch—it was midnight. The pale moonlight was giving an eerie glow throughout the ward. And then –I felt it again. Something was touching my head.—Startled, I turned around to see a long white haired old lady pulling my hair whilst sitting in the seat next to my bed and being silhouetted by the moonlight. All that was missing was the forked lightening!
Regardless of illness, I was out of that bed in a split second. I was stopping for neither man nor beast. The next 10 minutes spent at the tea urn were most appreciative!.
Later that night, she attacked two other patients and was eventually removed.

Last Thursday, the ‘International Round The World’ Clipper ship commenced from Liverpool. 14 boats are competing, including the local boat ‘Liverpool 8’
After various stop over’s, they return to Liverpool on the Ist July, just 14 days before the “Tall Ships” arrive here after completing their ‘Round The World’ voyage’s.
So you see, I intend cheating Davy Jone’s locker for some time yet, as I have no wish to miss these events.

Ron.

Ron - that made me laugh!Big Grin Good to see your sense of humour isn't letting you down.

My Dad served in and was shot in Sicily during WWII. He doesn't talk much about the horrors of war but is quite happy to recount the story of waking up in a PoW hospital bed with an axe-wielding maniac running loose in the ward... Eek So it seems even today that hospitals are populated by people who perhaps ought to be somewhere more secure...(present company excepted, of course, Ron!Big Grin)

Great story Ron - I now have this wonderful mental image of you leaping out of bed in a hospital gown and running off down the ward! Big Grin
Just as well you weren't hooked up to any drips or anything!

What a wonderful story, thanks for cheering me up on a day when I badly needed it.

Rumour has it the occupants of the Viking ship went into the pub for a few beers and found it up on bricks with the oars missing afterwards. Untrue and libelous I'm sure.

Talking of clippers according to EH's Heritage magazine only 5% of the originalk fabric of the Cutty Sark was lost in the fire. Experts believe the ship to be recoverable - but at a cost of a further £10 million. Chickenfeed to a Government that can squander £12 billion on IT systems that don't work.
