Well forgive me if I am wrong but the original Time Team seemed to be centered on having a look at those sites that were not deemed suitable for full scale excavations and that the interested public wished to know more about.
Am I wrong?
Regardless of the rights or wrongs of MDs (and I have met several of these on a local Roman site -some very knowledgeable some on the lookout for valuables)
So, near the Kennet and Avon Canal is -a Roman Villa -only bath house found (its under the sewerage works) an 18th century industrial site (now woodland) and a mysterious mound next to a 12/13th century church -seems like any of these would be interesting.
These type of sites must be replicated up and down the country. Maybe the landowners of the ones I mention might not wish them to be disturbed but others might
It also looks like that could be used across the UK... Are there other sites in the UK
I have one in East Lothian...
An Iron Age site, next to a 7th century Church site... near a medieval village and 15th century castle.. an 18th century landscape and House.. and finish off with a lost vilage and quarry site .. Whittingehame
Don't know about the BM , but Hull city Museum certainly was! The site was left as a car park until (I think) the late 80s/early 90s when the site was excavated in advance of redevelopment. Many former museum exhibits were found and matched up to the remaining records.

I knew there was a case like this, but couldn't quite recall where it was or if I'd imagined reading about it.
Thanks Valerie... I had a false memory there about the BM... No, like Chris, I find that a folk tale is true... ! Now thats the sort of dig I would love to be on.
Once found an Egyptian artefact in a stable ... brought back during the early 19th C..by the lord. But the Hull Museum sounds like a million times bigger. Both a disaster (with the bomb) and an opportunity (with the dig).

It is still a car park,but during the excavations they found a burned out motorbike,left exactly where it was parked up. Some interesting things re found. Kev.
