Nice kick off to the new series. Even theory-a-minute Neil did not grate on the nerves too much. Give me castles any day, far better than the usual Roman stuff.
Fully agree. Great opening programme, even though I was a bit sceptical when i saw Neil was leading. I also prefer castles, so it certainly ticked boxes for me. Enjoyed seeing Helen and Richard trying to work out what the remaining parts of the castle were.
It was interesting, I love castles, so it was bound to be... I bet the schedulers knew it was a good one, with the find of the beautiful gold Noble too, they normally start filming in the spring, and this was obviously later in the year! Lets hope the series continues to be as exciting!
yeah it was amazing to know what it finally used to look like. once i get my new phone worked out i will post some photos i took and a really close one of the noble coin which i was lucky enough to hold myself.i was shaking just like the guy who found it

Hi Jonathon was shaking for sometime afterward he found the Gold Noble and so he should have as it is a fantastic find. I only found the silver hammered Alexandra III penny and I was happy with that. I'm reliably informed there are more coins found later on in the series by other metal detectorists too!
hi there was you involved with the codnor dig ????and when you say more coins found later in the series do you mean theres more to come from codnor ...cus i here they may do smething they very rarely do and thats to return ??????

Just thought I'd say thank you for all your kind words about my incredible find at Codnor Castle! And yes, I have stopped shaking....Just! In fact, when I saw the episode last night, I very nearly started shaking again! The find of a lifetime I know you all agree! Mick Aston didn't feature because he was poorly at the time, hence Neil stepped into his shoes (Even he admitted Castles weren't really his bag! Now I have sorted my password out for the Forum, I might be able to answer any questions you might have! Regards Jonathan

Mick has been scaling back his contributions to the series over the last couple of years. I believe he is due to appear in eight out of the thirteen episodes in this series.
hi jonathon i was lucky enough to hold the coin that you found as i deliver the post to the surrounding houses every day and when time team were there they took me for a guided walk once fiming was finished i couldnt believe how delicate it felt and i too was shaking and couldnt hold it for more than a minuite in the fear i would drop or damage it are you going to return ??? if not have you got anything else planned

Unscrupulous archaelogists too as there are good and bad of both. As this is a scheduled monument there shouldn't be an issue with either!
I was informed that a number of Roman coins were recovered on a dig in Gloucestershire which according to the schedule is aired on 03/02/08 Mysteries of the Mosaic but I am intrigued with 27/01/08 edition The Naughty Nuns of Northampton !!!
