As a matter of interest did anybody watch "Dalzeel and Pascoe" the other night? I did and can't wait to see the final part tonight. It is called "The Dig" and concerns the abbrasive interface [nice corporate-speak there!] between a team of archaeologists excavating the burial site of Queen Cartimandua of the Brigantes and the contractors about to build a motorway.
Is it coincidence that the excavation director is a young female with an off-comer accent?? [shades of Ms Gallagher] Goes much further than yer usual excavation though. They discover a modern body [shock/horror] and that wonderful team of Dalzeel and Pascoe are called in. MtA comes into it when Dalzeel decides to get an 'expert' at the local university to reconstruct the face of the dead man. Unfortunately, before we can get a look, some vandal comes along with a hammer and smashes it to smithereens, in the same manner as the body in the trench and another in a worker's caravan.

I love this prog. Dalzeels acting is now superb viz. the scene last week when he was at Pascoe's hospital bedside when he though Pascoe was going to croak. No hard man there. And the interchange between them is magnificent, especially now that Dalzeel has set his cap at the lovely young pathologist.

Try and catch the second part tonight. You will see an excavbation like you have never seen on TT nor MtA

Cheers

Ian G.

I did seem that whomever wrote the script for this one had a rather wobbly view of how rescue archaeology is done, particularly on road schemes.
Still why let the truth get in the way of bad drama? Big Grin

I thought it was quite funny actually.

I watched it too! Thought it was very good. Did wonder if things really get done so quickly. The only had 3 weeks to do the dig before the constuction guys move in, yet they seemed to have a lot of huge trenches dug (of course Time Team would have it done in 3 days!) And the facial reconstruction - are they realy done that quickly?

Did anyone see the Antiques Road Show last night? The first guy bought along 4 flint "daggers" and one made from obsidan. I was quite cross when he said the museum wanted him (or his father?) to donate them but he wouldn't. And where did he get them from? Part of me hopes they were made by Phil or some modern knapper! That would show him! Can you date flint if it is not in context?

Qoute fromn the Archeaology Professor:

" I've just contacted English Heritage and their going to do everything they can to preserve the site"

Now that really is lurching into the realms of fantasy Big Grin

Funny thing was, watching TT on Sunday when they discovered that unexpected skeleton, the vague thought went through my mind "what if it were modern...?" Eek
