that was a hoot... watched over my shoulder as I worked at my computer...
I had just spent the day with kids from my YAC being drilled in Roman Army orders (in Latin btw) and tested on their knowledge of teh Romans in Scotland... Shall we say, I think they might have done as good a job... nae offence mates... but I nearly gnawed my leg off at some of the answers... ( Which Tracian led a slave revolt against Rome?... er..... these are hard questions...) ah bless... you could not make it up!
Glad they got there in the end.. though it felt like the final answer was bludgeoned into submission... methinks a 2nd series will be fading into the mists of time. Still it is Sunday evening viewing..... and I expect I would manage to make a complete grinning fool of myself - if I tried...
I didn't want to comment last week when I started this thread off. I wanted to give it the benefit of a second chance...
As much as everybody who is aquainted with me knows, I think Tony is brilliant, but sorry Tone...Codex is dire. A kind of poor cross between Fort Boyard and Treasure Hunt.
I have seen two episodes of Codex and awaiting the third instalment this evening (in the hope it will pick up). I think like a few other members have said, that the idea is good in principle. I was definitely provoked shout the answers it the screen during the second episode though.
However, being very very sad indeed I have used the wonder of sky plus to pause the screen before any letters are in the Codex to work it out and then sat smugly at the end when I've got it right. So if nothing else that will keep me amused.
I can't see a second series unless they improve this, it seems to be uncertain of its target audience and half panders to several without providing much for any in particular.
As a history buff, I became dissatisfied that there was insufficient detail ahown regarding the articles they were looking at. As a game show buff, there were few opportunities for me to get involved.
As general entertainment, the overly dramatic format quickly becomes very boring without any drama.
