I suppose this is recent history by some standards but does anyone know where I can get information on butcher knives made in Sheffield from 1826 to 1839 and exported to the United States. The Sheffield cutlers included I. Wilson, Hiram Cutler, W. Greaves & Sons, and J. Graves. The knives were sold to the American Fur Company of New York City and then shipped to the Rocky Mountain West where they were used by Plains Indians and American Frontiersmen.
