I am in complete agreement Saffron. I want to know what the climate was like, how people lived, what their distribution was etc. This was TT at it's best inspiring me to make more personal investigations of my own!
I know I haven't visited the forum for yonks but I thought I'd have a look to see peoples comments on the programme. I thought it was very interesting, especially to us Pagans ! BTW. winter solstice is widley regarded as new year to us. A couple of questions asked at a Pagan meeting : 1) Is the timber reconstruction staying in place ? 2) Will access to the site (or the reconstruction) be allowed at the time of the solstices ?
if you have access to freeview, I would see if it's being repeated on e4, more4 or e4+1 as there are a lot of repeats on those channels plus a lot of old TT too.

Ive got sky so I have all those channels. Ive also checked and I cant find it, plus TT repeats aren't advertised on Ch4 so I tend to miss them.

According to Stephan (see second last posting on the Interesting TV programmes thread), it has already been repeated on More 4. So presumably it might take a while before it comes round again
in reply to bri, the wood for the reconstruction was rented, and so the reconstruction was only scheduled to stand for a week before it was returned to its rightful owner. shame really. the atmoshphere insode was amazing
Hi I know this thread died out last year but i was a digger at Durrington last year and have just returned from this years dig. we finished excavating the Southern circle and despite the many comments that it was probably roofed most of us who experienced the TT reconstruction felt strongly that it never had a roof. The monument was designed to make to move around it in a certain way and made you feel that you could only enter or leave through the main gateway (for want of a better word). this year we began to investigate the centre of the henge and found several neolithic structures with hearths which seem to have been surrounded by palisades and ditches. Lots more bone, flint tools and pottery was found and the "road" leading from the eastern entrance to the river has in fact proved to be just that, a hardened road surface. all fascinating stuff, cant wait to go back next year!!
