The earliest TV commercial I think I can remember might be the one from the Milk Marketing Board which had the slogan "Watch out, watch out there's a Humphrey abot!" (Or was it "Look out"??). All I can remember is this red and white straw (although I had to be told it was red & white as we had a black & white telly!!).

The other one I thought was quite clever was the British Gas one ... "Tell Sid".

Or of course there's BT's "Do Busby a favour .."

Boy, there are loads - Don't get ad's like that these days!! Big Grin

I remember the BT one that Maureen Lipman starred in as a gran, 'you got an ology'. Big Grin

As well as the one for a brand of BeefBurgers, but everyone ended up thinking they were advertising chips since the song went along the lines of 'we hope its chips, its chips'.
Don't think McCain minded a bit of free advertising. Big Grin

Oh and the Smash Aliens. 'For Mash get smash'. Cool

Bless Maureen Lipman - I think her 'Beattie' ad's will always remain a classic. Those ads, the Oxo ads, the Gold Blend ads, the Milk Tray (and all because ...!) etc, were little stories of their own which we came to love. Don't get commercials like that any more.

I had to smile at the 'Shake & Vac' posting - that's another one which sticks in the brain!

What about the PG Tips chimps eh? Especially the 'Mr. Shifter' one. "Do you know there's a piano on me foot?". "You hum it son and I'll play it!!!". CLASSIC! Big Grin

Gawd! I've just discovered that the main ad which was one the telly in the year of my birth (1971) was a Coca-Cola one with a whole gaggle of kids from around the globe singing "I'd like to teach the world to sing ..."

Now here's a question ... Does anyone here actually REMEMBER that being on the TV?? Big Grin

I sure do remember the Coke advert!
It was my absolute favourite ad at the time.
An interesting thing on a recent "top100 adverts" thing was that all those people weren't actually there apparently. They were "blue screened" in!

Ruined it for me!

Yes that's true Mr. Amphibian. I saw that programme too. Actually after I'd finished watching it, I suddenly realised I'd spent a couple of hours or whatever it was watching ADVERTS!!!! Eek I moan when there on for 3 mins let alone for that length of time!! Yet in a nostalgic way it was quite nice I s'pose!

Remember the yellow pages one, where the northern bloke gets his son a brand new bike. 'I were right about that seat though'. Cool

Ready brek where the kids go off to school surrounded by a red glow.

The safety ads with Charlie the cat.

Rolf Harris and the learn to swim ads.

The Country Life ad with those little butter men.

Fox's Glacier mints with the polar bear and the fox arguing over who should stand on the mint.

Cresta pop with Cresta Bear.

Guiness the toucan ads

I loved that ad. I remember me & my brothers would start humming that music whenever our Dad talked about when 'he was a lad' Big Grin

And that yellow pages one for J.R Hartley. The joke being he was J.R.Hartley looking to purchase his own book. Big Grin

I remember the "Follow the Bear" ads. I know it was for a lager but don't know which brand.

And the "Acrington Stanley, who are they!" milk ad

I remember the BT ads with Bob Hoskins: "It's good t' tawk!" I remember my mum always used to say to me: "He was Mario in the Super Mario Brothers movie."

And the Snapples adverts (If I spelt that right), the shopkeepers thought they were interviewing them cos they'd owned the shop for years!

Mr. Sheen! I used to love those adverts, him flying the "duster" airplaine and all.

McVities: "You have to go a long, long way to find a better biscuit." I remember I was infatuated with the little girl on them (I think I was about 5 at the time).

That's all I can remember at the moment...

Anyone remember that Clarks add with the little girl who puts on the shoes and all of a sudden is in some fantasy land that kinda remind you of the film Legend?

When weetos first came out with the scrawny cartoon, was very disappointed cos I though that would be as big as doughnuts! Big Grin
