This is probably going to be a bit vague but...

Back in the late Seventies, early eighties there was this sitcom. The main character was a cynical but funny cartoonist. He worked from home behind a large drawing board. Large house with either a wife or ex-wife and two teenage daughters. Pretty sure the actor playing the main character had been pretty famous.

It was just you're standard gentle sit-com but I remember loving it.

Think it was ITV orginally on about 5.15pm, I seem to remember that 5.15pm week-days was one of ITV's time slots. Vaguely remember it sometimes on at lunch-times, pretty sure it was before all-day TV but could be wrong.

Anyone remember the show and title?

I remember the one you mean, he used to put a hand-puppet on when he was doing the cartoons. I t started with a picture of a house, bit like the playschool house. It's going to drive me mad now trying to recall the name.

Now how can I say this so

I'm not sure of you were referring to the original british series or the american remake. The original series was called "Keep it in the Family" and starred Tim barrett. The american remake was called "Too Close For comfort" and starred Ted Knight.
