How did we get on to the subject of Navy Blue School Knickers on different parts of the country thread. Hee Hee. I quite agree I too remember them with fondness, I dont think. Great big baggy ones and took ages to dry on the line.

iam from sunderland and we are called mackems, geordies were originally from durham not newcastle quote: Originally posted by seaslug: Im fascinated by accents and on my travels recently have met with lots of different people from lots of different areas ranging from Cornwall to County Durham. The one thing that I have found interesting is the names that people are called from different areas. We ve had one example of scousers on here and heres the only ones I know of, has anyone got any from there area.
I didnt realise that Geordies were only from a certain part either.
Hampshire; Hampshire hogs Suffolk. The Tractor boys or Silly Suffolk Cockney, East End of London, within the sound of Bow Bells.

[In the 'Black Country' they say 'her' instead of 'she' and 'us' instead of 'we'. It's true about 'Birmingham - Brummies' and people also shorten Birmingham to 'Brum'.
I meant they say 'we' instead of 'us' in the Black Country.
** I never realised the difference between the Black Country & Birmingham accent till last September, having made the mistake of moving to Brum. Our accent - BC - is a hell of a lot better, that constant up & down with vowels that go on for 10 seconds isn't half annoying. I hate the Brummie accent !!! (Born & Bred in Wolverhampton)
Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer ?

I met with a lady at a Copuntry show and we were getting on famously and I asked her if she was from Brum, (Im a Southerner) and she said No she was from Wolverhampton. I said Oh sorry and she said she wasnt offended. I suppose unless you live in or near the area its easy to mistake some regional accents.
