I agree.

Countdown with no Richard is like no Paul in his show.

I think they're reluctant to let it go and also mindful that Richard loved it and would have wanted it to survive.

I think Des O'Connor as a choice is a disaster.

As I say....two years and it will be over.

I liked Des on Des and Mel. It was stupid axing that and putting Loose Women on.

You can't really criticise it as we haven't seen him yet.

Apparently carol vorderman told somebody on GMTV that Des O connor is going to be the new presenter of countdown but im not 100% sure about that because I heard it on the radio this afternoon

I'm not criticising, juat giving my opinion based on what I've seen of Des in the past twenty years

That's ok. But I just think we should give him a chance. Loads of people moaned about Des taking over but he's done a good job.

well it sounds like he has got his chance...time will tell, as they say.

Its not the same without richard whitley

unless he reaveals a side to him hitherto hidden for the last 20 odd years, I think he's not the right person for Countdown.

yes, tom o connor does seem to be the best man for the job,..but it does seem to be dragged out a bit now, i think....i never seem to waytch it anymore....Des Lynam is not a patch on Richard! but Tom would do better...

When Dermot Morgan died they knew it wasn't right to make anymore Father Ted episodes and they shouldn't of got Des or anyone else to replace Richard Whiteley.

It's a difficult one as Richard wouldn't have wanted the show to fold and i guess that's part of the motivation to continue.

you just have to admit when something has had its day. it's always best to end something on a high.

i feel Countdown is now in the process of a drawn out whimpering end.

i find myself getting bored with it even when i do watch it but i think that's partly to do with me.

i hardly watch it now but I admit Des did grow on me. He took a while to settle in and make it his own. He always seemed so miserable but he's actually got a nice sense of humour.

when they finally throw in the towel i think you'll hear comments similar to the ones made here -when Mr Countdown went the show went with him.

i like des o connor - he is a good sport as well as a good laugh..he always used to make me laugh on Des&Mel and previously when he had his chat show in the evenings - wedensdays, i think.
he gets on well with people - we should give him a chance eh? just don't let him sing...hehehe...
i say that Tom o Connor would've been a better choice really, but i don't think that des will do a bad job...
we shall see...

yes I think Tom oconner would be good he was on the show the other week and waas very good and fit in nicely where as we have Tony cxhristy this week

I am just getting into it I never liked it with Richard Whitely he suited calander and news programms best, but Des is getting real good so it is a shame he is leaving.

Perhaps we should give the poor bloke a chance before casting our opinions, she says (tongue in cheek) Personally I think Tom would have been the better candidate but lets wait and see.

we're just speculating on how suited we feel he is to the role - no doubt the same as the other thousands of Countdowns viewers across the land.
