Yeah, the Back in the Day forum had a competition a few months back, I won a book called "T.V Cream", and also a Sega console.....Unfortunately I never recieved them!! I emailed chat@channel4, they took a month to get back to me-then just asked for a link so they could "Track down the admistrators"!!! Um....I think the administrators are them..... I am so confused! Obviously, now the link has conveniently disappeared from the forum, and google-funny that eh? I am a bit gutted to say the least....

Good thinking Goddess, well Done for the Thread. Even the youngsters have memories of their days in the past too so this should make for an interesting read. Ill not now be here for a while but will return at some point with some more and I did really enjoy our chat and yes I also remember the coats on the bed. Heres just a few more for now.
Horse drawn milk cart. Yes Im not joking
Steam Trains
Trolley Buses
Black and white tv.
Food Larders in the cellar to keep milk and butter cold (No fridges or freezers)
Liberty bodices with rubber buttons, to keep you warm in winter
The clothes on the line outside stiff as a board in the cold winter, you could bend the arms.
Ice on the inside of the windows let alone the outside.
Whoops getting carried away here. Speak soon.
Take care folks.

In case anyone wondering what era I am talking about, NO it wasnt the Victorian Days, Hee Hee but the 1950s. Hard to imagine nowadays isnt it. But as Goddess will know too, we grew up through the decades with lots of changes. But please lets have some from the later years too.

Strange, I was only thinking of the "old days" only yesterday. My washing machine broke down on Saturday and I cannot get one delivered till Friday so I have to do all the washing by hand!! I was remembering what it was like before washing machines, clothes used to take days to drip dry especially in winter, there was no spin dryer only the mangle!! My mother used to OMO washing powder!!! Apologies if I have repeated the topic.

I recall after gas lights, we had elec bulbs, and we would often have to fiddle around in the dark, trying to find a shilling for the meter. Winter nights talking around the coal fire, while toasting bread on a fork, listening to the wireless, cold bed sheets, but lots of laughing.Walking miles to school, and home again to watch popeye on are black and white tv, or Jim Dale. At least we can now see Paul in colour. And if we think we might be late we can record it. We never had it so good me thinks.

I wauld wear more to bed than i did in the day time.We had coats on the bed and more ice inside than out.I didnt even have a light bolb. sounds really sad but it was the same for everyone. We were made to have a hot drink before bed to warm us up.I also shared a big bed with my 2 sisters and hoped my younger sis didnt wet the bed that night. Iwill end by saying i had a great childhood because i didnt no any better.

Hi, yes I remember the Smurfs but from the 1970s I think!!!! I'm sure I still have one in my loft somewhere!! I remember when a local garage used to give them away with petrol. It has gone now but I still refer to the site where it stood as the Smurf garage, I do get some strange looks!!!! They were so cute.

I FEEL THE OLD DAYS WERE HARDER, I HAD OLD DANNY K BOOTS WITH CARD BOARD IN THEM TO STOP WATER LEAKING IN,WE WALKED MILES FOR BLACKBERRYS,EVENINGS DAD WOULD OFTEN FIND US WAITING UNDER THE APPLE TREE FOR ONE TO RIPEN.A DAY OUT WAS THE JUMBLE SALE NOT TO BUY JUST LIKE WINDOW SHOP,WHEN THE WELL RAN DRY, WE HAD TO WAIT FOR RAIN TO WASH,I YHINK THATS HOW I LEARNT TO DANCE.WINTER WE WOULD ALL 9 OFF US SIT AROUND A CANDLE TO FEEL WARM, AND WHEN IT WAS REALY COLD WE LIT IT,BUT WE HAD SOME LUXURY;S A SECONDHAND PAIR OF ROLLER-SKATES I HAD TO SHARE WITH MY SISTER,SO WE HAD ONE EACH,I THINK THATS WHY WE ALL SUFFER WITH A LIMP.WE SKATED IN THE ROAD, NO TRAFFIC ONLY ANIMALS, WE OFTEN SAW A ZEBRA CROSSING. ALL WILL BE WELL.
