WOW
Thanks for this seaslug, it was great to see so many different things from the days gone by. i am not old enought o remember most things but i do remember some! i remember the ice on the inside of the windows aswell as the outside.
i had my own record player when i was 14, and of course i used to watch the Smurfs - every sunday at my grandparent's flat - they lived in london so we stayed at weekends. my grandad used to lie in til midday and us kids had to go and jump on the bed to wake up 'bonzo' - my nan used to call him that - although i never knew why!
danny kaye was my favourite actor/comedian in th old days - i was quite upset when he died..
i remember my mum and nan both used a twin tub washing machine - a toploader...i remember standing in front of the gas fire after my bath, to keep warm and my mum nagging me to go and get my clothes on and i get warm quicker!
travelling on the old slam-door trains - although it has only been a couple of years since they went out of action.
i went to london, christmastime, with my dad and he bought me chestnuts that had been roasting on a stall on the corner of some big road - think it may have been bond st - or somewhere in n.london because that is where my grandparents lived and where i was born - incidentally.. talking of christmas - mum used to put nuts, a tangerine and a mince pie in an old (clean!) sock as a stocking...
now i have def. been going on.. if i can think of more i will post it...
thanks for the memories, guys, they're great!

So glad you enjoyed it Boysmama72 and I really enjoyed reading your post too. I cant beleive you can remember all that being a youngster. Now Im being cheeky. But I am terrible at remembering what came from different decades although I remember the 50s and 60s well. MOst of the things you said I can also relate to. Like the trips to London, to see the lights which in those days were brilliant and Southend lights that was so magical as a child. Ooh getting all nostalgic now. Hee Hee.

And while we are on anniversaries of things. have firework night on Nov 5th and no other day, harvest festival, always had to take a tin or two in for the old folk, and the seasons as they were then. Now you have me started. Sorry for being boring. I dont know but everything seemed more like you had to look forward to it and not drummed in like christmas is now months in advance. Everything was around the date of when the anniversary fell.Such as Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Bonfire night not weeks and weeks of it. Oh dear I am sounding oldie and sad now.

I think I was born a generation too late. I've always wished I was older and had grown up in the 60 or 70s whatever. All teenagers my age, well it's not the same as your generation where you can look back on all those years with the classic TV shows and the famous people.

Now everything is technology dominated and rap music, reality telly and I have to grow up with it. Lol

Arh thats nice of you to say O grady. When I think of all the changes that have happened in a 50 year span its incredible. I can remember in the 60s being told how technology would take over in the 90s which seemed such a long way away and now look where we are.

I know. I think the way technology has evolved over the years is amazing but it seems it's taking over everything and being used for the things we don't really need.

Like these toilets without paper and fans and lights and all manner of things. When before you were lucky to have a toilet. Lol

Eh LOL O Grady, what are those then, toilets I mean, I havent lived hee hee. But I do agree with you. I had to grow up with most things manually done. I even remember my mother and grandmother scrubbing the washing on a washboard which I was fascinated by and the mangle. Sometimes I think we have gone backwards in things though.

That's what I miss. When things were being discovered and having a telly was a luxury. And so many amazing things happened that will be remembered forever. And the legends from those years that we'll never see again. They all just want the fame nowadays.

Dont apologise, I not offended, Im laughing at this end, I reckon my other half will wonder what I am getting up to here. Laughing to myself. Anyway what I was about to say, I have the advantage of all the things that my parent told me about their decades and even further back the grandparent, although they are all passed on now of course. Funny I was brought up in a family that always talked about this and that generally but never anything that was important, that was all hush hush. Thats another thing, things are so much more open now.

talking of things gone by - one thing i am sad to have missed is the trams in london...i would have loved taking a ride on them..
thinking of london - i remember going to trafalgar square and, with my 2 brothers, singing christmas carols in front of the huge norwegian tree!!

Yeah. My Grandad used to talk about the war but I never paid attention much. Well I did but I didn't ask him stuff which I regret.

He passed away last year on the anniversary of the POG show starting strangely enough so I won't get the chance.
