Well, as you all know today was my first councilling session. It went okay. I talked for ages, cried and basically told her everything which was on my mind. She didn't give me any advice though. And I thought the whole idea of coumcilling was to be able to have someone give their professional help and advice to help you sort out your problems. I aren't sure if I feel any better or any worse right now. But I'm trying to think positive. My friend was supportive, she waited outside for me and gave me a great big hug when I was finished! It was lovely. Anyway, I'd just like some hugs and support from everyone on here if that's okay? Thanks! xx

Well done indeed for going along, it takes a lot of courage if you've never been before. Don't be put off as you weren't given any advice, it was your first time remember. Also I think I'm right in saying that some Councillors do tend to do a lot of listening in the early stages of the therapy.
Big hugs for you...<<<<< >>>>> xxx

i had depression for 5 years ( both my mum and sister were terminally ill and i just oculdn't cope) .... i didn't like the first counsellor i had, i dreaded going which wasn't a help, so i told my doctor and i started to see someone else ... he was my ray of sunshine... i felt so much better, so don't worry, your counsellor may be getting toknow you, or you may change to another ... whatever happens, it is a good first step, well done!!
i get the odd week or so now, but i have learnt how to deal with it ... good luck

Thanks everyone. Yeah, we spent a lot of the session just talking about everything which has happened, and particularly about how I was feeling. She told me that councilling is about being able to talk about problems and figuring it out on my own, which made me a bit confused - if I could work it out on my own, I wouldn't need a counciller. Thanks for the hugs everyone! xxx

Thank you so much Lizina. It is nice to know that other people have had to go through councilling. I was feeling like I was the only person who was having to go through this. I do feel a little better. I am eating a lot more, and it is a lot less forced today. I did feel like the session was a lot about talking, and I was afraid that at the end of it I would feel depressed. I have booked my next 3 sessions and she said that we will see how I am after that. She told me that she has had a lot of other people with problems like mine and they have always came out fine in her experience. It kind of gave me a bit of security xx

I am hoping so Bex She was nice, and reassuring. Told me that everything that I said would only be kept between us, unless she thought I was endangering my life or anyone else's. She listened a lot. It was nice, but I am not sure if it helped much. I am going back to see her next Monday at 11 o'clock so I'm hoping I'll get a bit of advice then x
What you have to remember is that it wont help straight away, but in time you will begin to notice a huge difference. Dont worry about it yet, just take things one step at a time.

The thing is, she is just a college counciller so I am only able to see her for the next 5 weeks and then I leave college. She said that those sessions will definitely make a huge difference and I will probably feel it, but I was just a bit puzzled when she never gave me any advice. Has anybody else had a counciller? Did they give advice on how to deal with things? I am a bit confused, that's all. xxx
Well, with my nan, they did alot of listening in the first couple of sessions because i guess they have to get an idea of exactly how you are feeling before they can start giving advice. She will probably spend some time deciding what is best for you over the next couple of weeks.

I'm just afraid because I have spent a long time talking about everything, with various people, and it didn't seem to of helped. How is talking about it even more going to help? I wanted some advice, which is why I went to her. x
Yes Of Course You Need Advice But Talking Is The First I Was Told
